The Boston Red Sox shut out the Chicago White Sox 4-0 on Wednesday night at Fenway Park to extend their winning streak to seven games. Sonny Gray held Chicago to three hits across six scoreless frames, striking out eight to earn his league-leading 14th victory. Wilyer Abreu homered for the third consecutive game.
The win pushed Boston to 62-51. The Red Sox have won 30 of their last 35, a run that stands as the strongest 35-game stretch the franchise has ever produced.
Before the game, one of the most important arms in the organization provided an update that could shape how the rest of the season unfolds.
Red Sox Get Major Update on Crochet
Garrett Crochet has not pitched since late April, when shoulder soreness shut him down. He has spent three months watching the Red Sox transform their season without him. That has only made him want to contribute more.
“There’s no ego about it. It’s something I’ve done before,” Crochet said. “Any way possible I can help this team achieve the goal we set out in spring training, the goal that every team sets out to achieve. If I could help us achieve it, I don’t really care what the role is.”
Crochet acknowledged he does not yet know how many innings he can realistically build back to, and whether the timeline allows for a return as a starter remains unclear.
“That’s not really in my court,” Crochet said. “For me, I’m looking forward to helping this team in any way I can. I’ve been on the sidelines for three months, and they’ve been killing it, and it just makes me hungrier and hungrier to want to join and just contribute.”

Where Crochet Stands Physically
Crochet picked up a baseball for the first time in roughly a month on Monday. He went through a light throwing session of about 30 tosses, mixing work from a knee with standing throws. The focus was on staying smooth and building back gradually.
“I actually felt really good…I feel strong,” Crochet said. “I felt like this past month, we really cleaned up a lot of things through specific muscle patterning and strength in general, so it feels very comfortable.”
Crochet believes there is enough time. The Red Sox will set the pace.

What Crochet Would Be Rejoining
The team Crochet left in April barely resembles the one waiting for him now. Boston was struggling badly when he went down. They have since posted the best record in baseball over the past five weeks and won nine consecutive series.
Gray’s outing Wednesday was the latest example. The veteran has been one of the most dependable starters in the American League all season, and Boston has won 15 of the 21 games he has started.
The rotation has held up. The bullpen has been dominant. Adding Crochet to that mix, in any capacity, raises the ceiling for a team that already looks built for October.

Garrett Crochet does not care about the role. Starter or reliever, it does not matter. He wants to pitch in October for a team that has earned the right to believe it will be there.
