Red, Purple and Brown line trains stopped after fire on tracks at Belmont station

An apparent fire at the Belmont CTA station halted rail service on the North Side on Tuesday evening, according to a transit agency spokesperson.

Firefighters responded to a call at 7:12 p.m. about a fire on the northbound Brown Line tracks at the Belmont station, according to a Chicago Fire Department official. All passengers were cleared off the train and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the fire official said.

Trains were stopped between Howard and Fullerton on the Red and Purple lines, as well as Kimball and Fullerton on the Brown Line, a CTA spokesperson said. Shuttles are currently replacing the halted rail service and crews are working to restore service, the agency said.
