Recent New York Yankees Player Now A Free Agent After Release From MLB Team

On Sunday afternoon, the Miami Marlins will finish up their series with the San Francisco Giants in California.

They are coming off a 6-2 loss on Saturday, so the series is currently tied up at 1-1 heading into Sunday’s showdown.

Earlier this week, the Marlins made the decision to cut ties with Austin Slater.

SleeperMarlins wrote (on April 23): “The Marlins officially announced that OF Esteury Ruiz will be reinstated off the 10-Day IL and designated OF Austin Slater for assignment”

Recent New York Yankees Player Now A Free Agent

Slater has now cleared waivers, and will be a free agent available to sign with any team in the MLB.

He batted .174 with four hits, one RBI, one run and one stolen base in 12 games for Miami.

Craig Mish of SportsGrid wrote: “Former Marlins OF Austin Slater cleared waivers and has elected free agency.”

Slater’s MLB Career

Slater was picked in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

He spent the first seven and a half seasons of his career playing for the San Francisco Giants.

In that span, the 33-year-old batted .254 in 593 games.

Following the Giants, Slater had quick stops with the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles.

Slater then spent last season playing for the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees.

Over ten seasons, he is batting .247 with 45 home runs, 185 RBI’s, 233 runs and 50 stolen bases in 711 MLB games.

It will be interesting to see if another team picks him up at some point this season.

Marlins And Yankees Right Now

The Marlins are currently 13-14 in 27 games, which has the second-place team in the National League East.

After the Giants, they will visit the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are at the top of the American League East with an 18-9 record in 27 games.
