Justin Rose Withdraws Following Masters Upset

One of the most notable late changes to the RBC Heritage field came with the withdrawal of Justin Rose. The decision follows an emotional week at The Masters Tournament, where Rose found himself in contention deep into Sunday before ultimately falling short and finishing in a tie for third.

“[It was a] chance that got away, obviously. I was by no means kind of free and clear and was nowhere kind of close to having the job done, but I was right in position,” Rose said. “The mentality was to run through the finish line – not just try and get it done. I was playing great, but just momentum shifted for me around the Amen Corner.”

Rose’s absence opens the door for Michael Thorbjornsen, who steps into the field for what will be his third Signature Event appearance of the season. The young American has already gained valuable experience in elevated events, including starts at Pebble Beach and Bay Hill.

Rose’s withdrawal also continues a recent trend, as he opted out of this event last year under similar circumstances following a difficult Masters finish. While his absence removes a seasoned contender from the field, the tournament remains stacked with talent. Notably, Rory McIlroy is also not in the field, choosing to rest after his Masters victory.
