Ravens’ $140 Million WR Zay Flowers ‘Day to Day’ After Injury Scare

The Baltimore Ravens just invested $140 million in Pro Bowl wide receiver Zay Flowers — the kind of money that makes moments like Saturday’s practice so much more magnified.

After getting tangled up in a 7-on-7 drill, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said Flowers is “day to day” moving forward with a quad contusion.

The Ravens would be smart to treat Flowers with kid gloves for the rest of camp — as he goes, so goes the offense.

Flowers signed a 4-year, $140 million contract extension on Wednesday that included $108 million in guaranteed money — the biggest non-QB contract in franchise history.

“Ravens WR Zay Flowers limped off the field favoring his left leg about an hour into practice,” ESPN’s Jamison Hensley wrote on his official X account on Saturday morning. “The 2-time Pro Bowl WR walked off on his own and did not need a cart. Flowers collided with safety Jaylinn Hawkins over the middle during a 7-on-7 drill. He immediately fell to the ground. Flowers had trouble getting up before getting looked at by trainers, who flexed his left leg. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry came over to check on Flowers. Ravens GM Eric DeCosta also spoke to Flowers while being looked at by trainers. It was only three days ago when Flowers signed a four-year, $140 million extension. Ravens coach Jesse Minter will talk after practice.”

Flowers is coming off consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons and consecutive Pro Bowl selections.

“Early hope is that it’s just a left quad contusion for WR Zay Flowers,” The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec wrote on X on Saturday. “He banged legs with Jaylinn Hawkins and was in a lot of pain as he was on the ground. Flowers limped back to the facility … Flowers will probably miss some practice time but Minter doesn’t expect him to be down for a while. Best case scenario really.”

Zay Flowers Cashed Out in Biggest Way Possible

There’s no way around calling Flowers the biggest winner — possibly in the entire NFL — with his new contract. It’s the absolute mother lode for a player who has finished in the Top 10 in the NFL in receiving once — 7th in 2025 — and never in the Top 10 in receptions or receiving touchdowns through his 1st 3 seasons.

Over his 1st 3 seasons in the NFL, Flowers has 237 receptions for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns.

NFL World Reacts to Flowers’ Massive Contract

The fact Flowers will be getting paid the same as Minnesota Vikings superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson at any point in their careers moving forward left some NFL fans aghast — especially considering his history of melting down in the playoffs when his team needs him most.

“Excuse me?” The Ringer’s Bill Simmons wrote on his official X account when news broke of Flowers’ extension.

“You gotta be kidding me, right?” Underdog’s Papa Zirk wrote on his official X account. “NFL teams just giving money away … let’s be honest here, no homer Ravens fans responses count. You’re really gonna pay Zay Flowers top 5 money? 4th if we’re getting technical. He’s making per season what Jetta is and a million more a year than CeeDee. Zay isn’t even top 10 in the league. No shot. Just facts.”
