Randy Orton Assault Could Turn Cody Rhodes Heel, Says WWE HOFer

So far this summer, Cody Rhodes has been ambushed by two of the most fearsome figures in WWE: the Ring General, Gunther, and The Legend Killer, Randy Orton.

Gunther attacked Rhodes on RAW in June by slamming a car door into his head, forcing the American Nightmare to miss his scheduled WWE Championship match against Sami Zayn that night.

Rhodes was robbed of yet another championship opportunity at SummerSlam when Randy Orton ambushed him with a brutal RKO.

Although Cody Rhodes has been a model of integrity in recent years, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry believes the punishment dealt by Gunther and Randy Orton could turn Rhodes heel.

“He needs to carry on being a heel,” Henry told Casino.org.

Henry added that he’s already seen a personality switch in the American Nightmare, stating, “He’s been a heel for the last 6 months. He says and does stuff that is not what a good guy would do. So, I already think that Cody is in the heel era. He’s in bad guy territory. I think he’s been doing a really good job of keeping the wool over our eyes.

Will Randy Orton Ambush Turn Cody Rhodes Heel?

For the third time this year, Randy Orton ambushed and brutalized Cody Rhodes.

The Viper bloodied Rhodes during a tense showdown on SmackDown during the Road to WrestleMania. Orton followed that up by assaulting Rhodes at WrestleMania 42 following their main event match.

Following a two-month absence, Orton proved he is still a thorn in Rhodes’ side by driving him into the ring canvas with an RKO and costing him the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

Since his return to WWE, Rhodes has played the good soldier. During his entrances, he’s always flashing a smile and handing out high-fives to fans.

However, Rhodes may have reached a point where his fellow WWE superstars are mistaking his kindness for weakness.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry believes that a heel turn could unlock a new level for Cody Rhodes.

“I think that the best is yet to come from Cody. Either at SummerSlam or after it,” Henry told Casino.org last week. “But Cody’s competition is getting harder. He’s going to have to go against Sami again. He’s going to have to go through Gunther again and he’s gonna have to go through Jacob Fatu and now Punk. We don’t know where Drew McIntyre is and how he plays into the equation. But he’s too good to leave out of it. Cody’s got a hard road ahead of him, and he’s gotta dig deep, but I see only good things for him.”

Will Cody Rhodes Fight Randy Orton at MITB?

Whether he turns heel or not, Cody Rhodes likely won’t take too kindly to Randy Orton’s ambush at SummerSlam.

Rhodes has been tormented by Orton for more than a decade now and could look to settle the score at the next PLE: Money in the Bank.

Street Fighter, featuring Cody Rhodes as Guile, releases in theaters a week after MITB. Perhaps Rhodes will get the party started early with a Street Fight against Randy Orton at MITB in New Orleans.

Money in the Bank takes place Saturday, October 10 at Smoothie King Center.
