Raiders Receive Clear Statement on Free Agent Stefon Diggs

The Las Vegas Raiders’ wide receiver room is one of the talking points surrounding the team. This offseason, the Silver and Black signed Jalen Nailor, who could elevate his game with a bigger role than he had with the Minnesota Vikings, and drafted Malik Benson in Round 6 of the 2026 NFL Draft.

As a result, many are questioning whether the Raiders did enough to improve the group, which will also include Tre Tucker, Jack Bech, and Dont’e Thornton Jr. Las Vegas lacks a No. 1 guy, and while there’s no player of that caliber in free agency, there are intriguing names.

Stefon Diggs remains a free agent and showed last season with the New England Patriots that he still has plenty left in the tank, leading ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes to say that the Silver and Black would be a fit for the veteran.

“I would throw out the Raiders though as a team that really should consider making this play because right now that receiving group is pretty thin and when the young quarterback Fernando Mendoza eventually starts, it would really help him to have a receiver like Stefon Diggs who he can rely on in those situations,” Kimes said on the May 22 edition of “NFL Live.”

Last season for the Patriots, Diggs played 450 pass snaps, earning him an 87.5 overall PFF grade. The 32-year-old hauled in 85 receptions on 100 targets for 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Moreover, he averaged 11.9 yards per reception on the season and generated 363 yards after the catch.

Raiders Would Benefit From Having Stefon Diggs

Moreover, Bill Barnwell of ESPN agreed with Kimes on the panel, noting that the Raiders make sense as a landing spot for Diggs, who could either catch passes from Fernando Mendoza or Kirk Cousins, a QB with whom he has chemistry from their time with the Vikings.

“The Raiders are a strong fit for Stefon Diggs. Consider the offense Clint Kuback ran last season in Seattle, which featured heavy boot action and a lot of crossers across the middle of the field. He also ranked second in ESPN’s receiver score metric, which measures how well a player gets open, catches the ball, and creates yards after the catch.

“Diggs played limited snaps last season, appearing in only about half of the team’s offensive plays. If he is used in a situational role, Las Vegas could operate as a heavy 12-personnel team. He would not need to play every snap, but could be highly effective in passing situations and key moments, similar to his role with Drake Maye last season. In that usage, Diggs could be a valuable weapon for Mendoza in his first season with the Raiders.”

Klint Kubiak Doesn’t Hold Back on Tre Tucker

While many pundits are worried about the Raiders’ wide receiver room, Klint Kubiak isn’t one of them. The Silver and Black head coach is high on Tucker due to the speed the wideout brings, which can add an intriguing element to his offense.

“Really no surprise there from what you have seen previously,” Kubiak told reporters on May 20. “[Tucker] can run all day. He is a quiet leader, a guy who is going to be put in a leadership role. He has to be a playmaker for us, and he has been. Now let’s go see what else we can get out of him.”
