The Golden State Warriors are going to be chasing superstar players this offseason. After a season that was derailed because of injuries, Golden State is hoping to add some great players this summer. They have been linked to several other players.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the one who has been linked to them the most. Any trade for Antetokounmpo is going to cost a team a lot of draft picks and another star player. However, Bill Simmons believes that Golden State could go after another superstar instead.
Simmons believes that the Warriors would have a realistic shot at bringing back Kevin Durant.

Bill Simmons Offers Up Warriors Kevin Durant Trade Scenario
While speaking on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons conjured up a scenario that would see Golden State bring back both Durant and Klay Thompson. He would also have LeBron James playing there, as well.
“As you know, I am all in on LeBron (James) going to Golden State next year. Can I have Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson join him? Let’s go full Expendables. Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson to Golden State, Butler’s expiring to Houston, we’ll throw Clint Capela and whatever small salaries to make it work to Dallas. Maybe they get a second-round pick. Houston gets something. And Golden State ends up with LeBron, Curry, Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Al Horford.”
This is an insane scenario for them to land all of these players. First off, it would be incredibly hard to make the salaries work in order to bring Durant in from Houston. This would also require James to take a massive pay cut, possibly sliding into the mid-level exception.
The Warriors would have to trade a ton of picks and most of their young contributors to make something like this work. What would make matters worse is that if it doesn’t work, a rebuild would take half a decade. They would be by far the oldest team in the league, too.

Golden State has a Consequential Summer Coming up
Antetokounmpo will be the first star that the Warriors go after this summer. His age allows them to still get a few years out of him, even once Curry retires. If they aren’t able to bring him in, they can pivot some of the older superstar players. That could include Durant.
The Rockets were able to stave off getting swept by the Lakers, but they are close to elimination. Big changes are in store for that roster, and that could include Durant after the burner scandal. Golden State has already won a couple of titles with Durant on the roster.
The Warriors had just the 19th-ranked offense in the NBA this season. Adding a premier offensive player is going to be their top priority this summer, no matter who they end up getting. Getting Curry some help for his final years is going to be something they must do.
