The men’s 2026 Olympic ice hockey tournament ended with Team USA defeating Team Canada 2-1 in overtime.
It’s the United States’ first Olympic gold in men’s ice hockey since 1980, when it was the Miracle on Ice team. The 2026 team was loaded with talent, and the Americans will now have a chance to go back-to-back, something Canada did in 2010 and 2014.
Although lots can change between 2030, here is what Team USA’s projected Olympic roster could look like.
Team USA Forwards for 2030 Olympics
There will be multiple players who will be too old by the time of the 2030 Olympics, but the core of Team USA should be back.
USA’s lines could look something like this, with their age at the time of the 2030 Olympics in brackets.
- J. Hughes (28) – Matthews (32) – Thompson (32)
- B. Tkachuk (30) – Eichel (33) – M. Tkachuk (32)
- Guentzel (31) – Cooley (25) – Robertson (30)
- Boldy (28) – Larkin (33) – Caufield (29)
- Knies (27) – Keller (31)
Team USA would run back a very similar forward group with the only changes being Logan Cooley, Jason Robertson, Cole Caufield, and Matthew Knies making the team. Knies, however, would likely be the scratch, while Team USA adds even more scoring to the lineup wth Robertson, Caufield.
Team USA will have the same top-six, plus a returning Guenztel, Larkin, Boldy, and Keller playing in the bottom six, adding some depth scoring.
Jack Hughes, who scored the Golden Goal for Team USA, will be a key part of the roster as he should be penciled into the top line.
“This is all about our country right now,â Hughes told NBC after the game. âI love the USA, I love my teammates. It’s unbelievable. The USA Hockey brotherhood is so strong. We have so much support from our players. I’m so proud of the Americans today.â
Team USA Defense for 2030
The United States’ blue line was a key strength for the team, and that should remain the case in 2030.
Quinn Hughes and Zach Werenski will anchor the blue line, as the team won’t have as much of a turnover.
- Q. Hughes (30) – McAvoy (32)
- Sanderson (27) – Werenski (32)
- Faber (27) – LaCombe (29)
- Buium (24) –Â Hutson (26)
The only changes on the blue line are Lane Hutson and Zeev Buium cracking the roster as both can add some more offense and skating to the blue line. Jaccob Slavin and Noah Hanifin would be off from the 2026 team, which would be hard cuts to make, but Hutson and Buium earn a spot, but one of them would be scratched.
Who’s the Goalies?
Team USA was led by Connor Hellebuyck in net, but he will be 36 by the time 2030 comes around, so whether or not he’ll still be playing at an elite level is to be seen.
âUnbelievable game by Hellebuyck,â Jack Hughes said. âHe was our best player tonight, by mile. Unbelievable game. Unreal game by our team. That’s just a gutsy win; that’s American hockey right there. That’s a great Canadian team, but we’re USA. We’re so proud to be Americans. Tonight is all for the country.â
Ultimately, Hellebuyck’s age will likely catch up, and Team USA will opt to bring in a younger goalie instead.
- Oettinger (31)
- Swayman (31)
- Knight (28)
The lone change in net is Spencer Knight being Team USA’s third goalie. Oettinger, however, would be the clear-cut starter for the States.
