Projecting Team Canada’s 2030 Olympic Roster After Silver Medal Finish

The men’s 2026 Olympic ice hockey tournament ended with Team USA defeating Team Canada 2-1 in overtime. It was a heartbreaking loss for Canada, whose roster seems destined to be overhauled in 2030.

In the last two best-on-best Olympic tournaments, Canada won gold in 2010 and 2014. But in 2026, the team fell short, losing a heartbreaker in overtime.

Although lots can change between 2030, here is what Team Canada’s projected Olympic roster could look like.

Team Canada Forwards for 2030 Olympics

Team Canada has a more veteran team compared to Team USA, as the Canadian roster will look much different in 2030.

Canada will say goodbye to captain Sidney Crosby and veteran players like Brad Marchand. Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, meanwhile, will be nearing the end of their primes.

Team Canada’s lines could look something like this, with their age at the time of the 2030 Olympics in brackets.

  • Celebrini (23) – McDavid (33) – Point (33)
  • Bedard (24) – MacKinnon (34) – Marner (32)
  • McKenna (22) – Suzuki (30) – Johnston (26)
  • Hagel (31) – Thomas (30) – Jarvis (28)
  • Guenther (26) – Byfield (27)

Team Canada will add young stars like Connor Bedard, and the projected first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Gavin McKenna.

Meanwhile, the bottom of the lineup will see more youth and offensive drive like Wyatt Johnston, Dylan Guenther, and Quinton Byfield, who likely would be the scratch.

Robert Thomas would also make Team Canada in 2030 after being a candidate to make the team in 2026. Another addition is Brayden Point, who made Team Canada, but an injury kept him from playing, and he was replaced by Jarvis, who should be back in 2030.

“You be the judge of who was the better team today,” said Canada forward Nathan MacKinnon after the game.

After losing out on the gold medal, Team Canada will be looking for revenge in 2030.

Team Canada Defense

Team Canada’s blue line was also a veteran one, and should see plenty of changes in 2030. There’s a chance Canada has six new defensemen in 2030, as Cale Makar and Thomas Harley should be the only two back.

  • Harley (28) – Makar (31)
  • Schaefer (22) – Dobson (30)
  • Power (27) – Bouchard (30)
  • Chychrun (31) – Clarke (27)

Team Canada’s blue line would have a complete makeover, and it’s arguably the hardest to project. Keaton Verhoeff, who could go first overall this year, could be in the running. Regardless, the top three need to be Harley, Makar, and Matthew Schaefer.

Who’s in Net?

One of the biggest questions Team Canada faced going into 2026 and now going into 2030 is who’s in net.

Canada used to have elite goaltenders like Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, and Carey Price in the Olympics. Yet, Canada hasn’t had an elite goalie in quite some time, but 2030 could change that with some young goalies coming up.

Ultimately, from 2026, only Logan Thompson will likely be back, but it may not even be him getting the starts.

  • Thompson (32)
  • Hofer (29)
  • Cossa (27)

Cossa is the true wild card here as he’s currently in the AHL in the Detroit Red Wings system. Yet, he projects to be a future starting goalie in the NHL, and if he lives up to the hype, he could be Canada’s starter in 2030. Joel Hofer could very well play his way onto this team in 2030.

Regardless, Canada’s goalie in 2030 will likely be heavily debated until the medals are handed out.
