Prep roundup: Ygnacio Valley roars into DAL semifinals. Dublin, Monte Vista advance in EBAL tournament. Milpitas edges Los Gatos.

No. 9 Ygnacio Valley 79, Miramonte 45

Ygnacio Valley, seeded No. 1 in the the Diablo Athletic League tournament after finishing atop the regular-season standings, had no letdown in its opening game Tuesday night.

Instead, it was more dominance by Antonio Kellogg Jr. and Co.

Playing at home, the Wolves led Miramonte 25-8 after the first quarter and 47-18 at halftime on their way to a spot in the semifinals Thursday night at home against Benicia.

Kellogg finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals as Ygnacio Valley improved to 21-6.

The Wolves also got 11 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and six steals from Jalan Cody.

Jack Quinnild had 12 points – all on 3-pointers – and Marcus Robinson chipped in with 10 points for Miramonte, which fell to 17-11.

Ygnacio Valley finished 11-1 during the DAL’s regular season. Its only loss was last week at home to Benicia, 66-56.

The rematch is next.

No. 17 Dublin 91, Amador Valley 51

Held to 32 points in a loss against Dougherty Valley to finish the regular season on Friday, Dublin did something about it in its East Bay Athletic League tournament opener.

The Gaels scored 30 points in the opening quarter and 53 in the first half as they cruised past visiting Amador Valley.

Next up: A rematch at Dougherty Valley on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Evan Bautista was 6 for 6 from 3-point range and finished with 22 points, three rebounds and two assists to lead Dublin on Tuesday.

The Gaels also got 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists from Jalen Stokes and nine points, three assists and two steals from Isaiah Wong as they improved to 20-7.

Ori Khasin (14 points, four 3-pointers) and Kasen Krueger (eight points) were Amador Valley’s top scorers.

The Dons fell to 17-11.

No. 15 Monte Vista 55, Foothill 43

Leading by three points at halftime, Monte Vista widened the margin to 11 after three quarters on its way to a victory at home over Foothill in the EBAL tournament.

  Buccaneers Add 43-Touchdown Quarterback

Jacob Shehata (15 points), Daniel Cojocaru (13 points) and Max Nishikawa (12 points) scored in double figures for Monte Vista.

Gurshan Sall had 19 points for Foothill.

Monte Vista (21-6) advances to play in the quarterfinals Wednesday night at San Ramon Valley. When the rivals played Friday at Monte Vista to close out the league’s regular-season schedule, SRV prevailed 62-53.

Foothill fell to 17-11.

No. 20 Campolindo 51, College Park 45

Easy? Hardly.

Coming off back-to-back losses to end league play, Campolindo had to do all it could to survive on its home court in a DAL quarterfinal against College Park, eventually exhaling with a victory that sent the third-seeded Cougars into a matchup Thursday night at second-seeded Clayton Valley Charter.

Tied 25-25 at halftime, Campo outscored the visitors 17-4 in the third quarter to seemingly take complete command. But College Park simply wouldn’t go away as the Cougars had to make plays down the stretch to escape with a victory.

Tim Smith (14 points), Ren Marchetti (10 points) and Dylan Mansour (nine points) were Campo’s leading scorers.

The Cougars improved to 21-6. College Park is 14-14.

No. 8 Sacred Heart Prep 63, Menlo School 42

Sacred Heart Prep built a nine-point cushion at halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a victory at rival Menlo School in West Bay Athletic League play. 

The Gators (18-4, 8-0) maintained their one-game advantage over The King’s Academy with two games to play. TKA visits SHP on Friday night.

TJ O’Brien had 14 points and Matthew Norris and Drew Wagner each scored eight points to lead SHP on Tuesday.

Ethan Zhao finished with 17 points for Menlo, which dropped to 12-10, 5-3.

Milpitas 49, Los Gatos 46

Milpitas erased an eight-point halftime deficit with a big third quarter and went on to defeat first-place Los Gatos in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division game.

The result drops Los Gatos (16-6, 7-3) into a tie for first with Palo Alto with two games to play. Los Gatos plays host to Gunn on Thursday and then visits Palo Alto next Tuesday.

The Wildcats led Milpitas 24-16 at halftime but went cold in the third period as the home team took a 31-28 lead into the final quarter.

Jacob Wrencher scored 16 points and Isaac Sisay added 15 points to lead Milpitas, which improved to 14-8, 5-5.

Los Gatos got 13 points from Nolan Koch and 10 from Scotty Brennan.

Girls basketball

No. 1 Archbishop Mitty 79, No. 9 Archbishop Riordan 38

After a somewhat competitive first half, Mitty found another gear as it cruised at home in West Catholic Athletic League play.

Playing a second consecutive game without UConn-bound point guard Morgan Cheli, the Monarchs got another huge performance from the other half of their dynamic duo as sophomore forward McKenna Woliczko scored 29 points to lead the way.

Elana Weisman (13 points), Belle Bramer (13 points) and Emma Cook (11 points) also scored in double figures for Mitty, which outscored Riordan 26-10 in the third quarter after holding a 35-24 halftime advantage..

The Monarchs improved to 22-0, 10-0. Riordan dropped to 14-7, 6-4.

Ashanti Dias scored 14 points to lead the Crusaders.

No. 4 Sacred Heart Cathedral 58, Valley Christian 46

SHC, playing at home in San Francisco, charged to a 39-17 halftime advantage and went on to defeat Valley Christian in a WCAL game.

Maddie Eade (13 points) and Kiana Moniz (11 points) were SHC’s top scorers.

SHC is 17-3, 7-2.

Mia Kagita had 16 points and Olivia Arellano added 11 points to lead Valley Christian, which dropped to 12-11, 2-9.

No. 6 Bishop O’Dowd 75, Alameda 32

Senior Nyah Greenwood scored 16 points to lead O’Dowd to a victory at home over Alameda in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play.

The Dragons upped their record to 17-5, 6-1, Alameda slipped to 17-7, 3-4.

Freshman Desiree Shoblo had eight points for Alameda.

No. 13 Evergreen Valley 59, Christopher 42

Ryka Aprameyan made her Senior Night a special one as she scored 39 points to lead Evergreen Valley to a victory over visiting Christopher in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division game.

Evergreen Valley also got 10 points from Lealah Rowden and six from Xuan-Mai Nguyen. Both are seniors.

Prep roundup: Oakland High dominates in huge upset over Northern California powerhouse

The victory improved Evergreen Valley’s record to 18-5, 9-0 and set up a showdown on Thursday at Branham to close out the regular season. Branham trails EV by one game. If EV wins, it claims the league title to itself. The teams will share the crown if Branham prevails.

Mills 47, Half Moon Bay 45

Michelle Tang scored on a floater with two seconds left to lift Mills to a victory over host Half Moon Bay, clinching at least a share of the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division title.

The Vikings can win the title outright with a victory on Friday at Menlo-Atherton. If M-A wins, the teams will share the championship among themselves or with Carlmont.

Carlmont and M-A are tied for second after the Scots beat M-A 71-68 on Tuesday.

In Mills’ victory over HMB, Tang led the way with 22 points, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her high school career in the process.
