Amador Valley 5, No. 1 Granada 2
There will be no undefeated season for Granada. After 16 consecutive victories, the Livermore school found itself on the short end of the scoreboard Wednesday.
Amador Valley pulled off the upset, beating the Bay Area News Group’s top-ranked team in an East Bay Athletic League game. The Dons scored two in the top half of the second for a 2-0 lead and three in the sixth to stretch a one-run advantage to four.
Granada got a home run from Riley Winchell in the fourth and Mikey Boyd in the sixth, but that was all the scoring the Matadors — the No. 1 team in the state, per Cal-Hi Sports — could muster against right-hander Matthew Foley, who pitched a complete game.
Foley’s single in the second led to an error that pushed across the first run for Amador Valley. Foley scored two batters later on Gage Talbot’s groundout.
Kyle Barbera’s double brought in another run to make it 3-1 in the sixth. Aaron Solomon followed with a two-run double to widen the margin to 5-1.
“Honestly, we were 8-8 going in, but we’ve lost like six one-run games and games we probably should have won,” Amador Valley coach Louis Cesario said. “We just kind of talked about we’re really close to finishing it up. Granada is in our league. We play them twice every year. We’re familiar with them.
“We played really well today. Matt Foley pitched great because that’s a good hitting team. We did what you’re supposed to do — hit with runners in scoring position, make the plays on defense and pitch. We finally put one together today.”
Amador Valley improved to 9-8, 4-3. Granada fell to 16-1, 5-1.
The teams will meet again on Friday at Amador Valley.
No. 5 De La Salle 28, Foothill 2
The two-time defending Northern California Division I champions have hit their stride in a major way over the past week, their 28-run explosion on Wednesday at Foothill following a 17-1 rout of Granite Bay on Saturday and a 24-1 pasting of Freedom on Friday.
After scoring 65 runs in its first 10 games, De La Salle has scored 69 in its past three.
Wednesday, the Spartans led only 1-0 after three innings.
Then it started raining runs as De La Salle scored 11 in the fourth, six in the fifth, four in the sixth and six more in the seventh while rolling to its fourth consecutive victory.
Hank Tripaldi went 3 for 5 with two doubles and five RBIs, Carlo Garcia had a home run and four RBIs and Ethan Sullivan had two hits and three RBIs to help lead the onslaught.
In all, 15 Spartans knocked in at least one run and 18 had at least one hit.
De La Salle improved to 10-3, 4-2. Foothill is 9-8, 3-3.
No. 8 San Ramon Valley 9, Dougherty Valley 1
Marco Jones had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs Joseph Coupland went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead San Ramon Valley to an EBAL victory on the road over Dougherty Valley.
Colin Linteo added a double and a triple and drove in a run and Charles Reiland allowed one run over six innings with seventh strikeouts as SRV improved to 10-5, 5-1.
Dougherty Valley is 6-10, 2-4.
The King’s Academy 2, Capuchino 1
Toby Trotter gave up one run in six innings and Anthony White and Nate Plata each had a hit and scored a run to lead TKA to a narrow victory at home over Capuchino in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play.
Lucas Zayac had two hits and drove in Capuchino’s only run.
TKA is 9-5, 4-1. Capuchino fell to 12-6, 1-4.
Wilcox 5, Homestead 2
Wilcox scored four runs in the top half of the seventh to turn a 2-1 deficit into a three-run cushion as the Chargers turned back Homestead in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division game.
Isaiah Mendoza’s single tied the score 2-2 and Samuel Martinez’s ground out gave Wilcox a 3-2 lead. Jared Cabildo then doubled to knock in two more runs for a 5-2 advantage.
Mendoza and Matthew Tiendas each had two hits for Wilcox, which upped its record to 10-6, 6-1.
Homestead is 8-6-2, 2-4.
No. 7 Los Gatos 10, Gunn 2
Los Gatos built a 10-0 lead after three innings as it breezed to a victory at home over Gunn in SCVAL De Anza Division play.
Zach Biller had two hits, including a home run, and Brayden Smith tripled and had three RBIs to lead the Wildcats.
Los Gatos is 12-3, 5-2. Gunn is 3-11, 0-5.
No. 12 James Logan 12, Washington-Fremont 0
In a matchup between teams that had not lost in Mission Valley Athletic League play, Logan scored seven runs in the fifth to take command as the Colts cruised to the victory.
Trevian Martinez had two hits and four RBIs, Cristian Padilla went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Westley Vega pitched six strong innings for Logan, which improved to 11-3, 5-0.
Washington is 7-7, 4-1.
Softball
Sobrato 4, No. 13 Branham 1
Kiyah Vasquez had two hits and an RBI and Amber Rodriguez had two hits and scored a run as Sobrato prevailed on the road over Branham in Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division play.
Sobrato also got five strong innings from pitcher Sam Zimmerman as it improved to 10-4, 6-2.
Branham is 12-7 5-3.
No. 14 Gilroy 12, Santa Teresa 0 (5 innings)
Ariela Yslava pitched a one-hitter and Andrea Alvarez had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs to lead Gilroy to a mercy-rule rout of host Santa Teresa in a BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division game.

No. 20 Gunn 16, South San Francisco 1 (5 innings)
Gunn scored eight runs in the third to turn this game into a rout as the Titans rolled to a mercy-rule victory at South San Francisco in nonleague play.
Tess Bogart went 4 for 4, scored three runs and drove in four to lead the way. Gunn also got three hits and an RBI from Izzy Grimmer as it improved to 14-1.
SSF is 0-12.
Bishop O’Dowd 17, Mt. Eden 9
In a wild nonleague game, Riley Veenstra had three hits and drove in six runs and Zoe Bolick had three hits and knocked in three runs to lead O’Dowd to the victory.
Andrea Toledo led Mt. Eden with three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs.
