OAKLAND — The recent killing of a 57-year-old man led to a police raid on a nearby encampment where officers seized two firearms and multi-ounce quantities of several different kinds of drugs, authorities said.
Marvin Hardeman, of Oakland and Stockton, was shot and killed around 2 a.m. Feb. 29 on the 4200 block of Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland. He died after someone drove him to Highland Hospital. Police raided the encampment near the shooting scene after receiving a tip Hardeman had traveled to the area to meet someone there, authorities said.

During the raid, authorities seized two pistols, a replica firearm, an ounce of cocaine powder, and several ounces each of heroin, crack cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as prescription painkillers, authorities said. They also reportedly found evidence of drug dealing, like small bags for packaging and a gram scale.
Police brought two people into custody on suspicion of drug possession, but they’ve been subsequently released, court records show. Authorities say they’re still trying to pinpoint the identity of the man who shot Hardeman, as well as the suspected motive.
