Police ID man killed April 27 in East Oakland

OAKLAND — Police here have identified a local resident who was killed in a broad daylight shooting late last month.

Hodari Lyons, 25, was shot around 1:25 p.m. on April 27, and pronounced dead later that afternoon. Police say the suspect or suspects fired around 10 shots and then sped off in a vehicle.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting by a gunfire detection apparatus near the 6900 block of Hamilton Street in East Oakland. When the officers arrived, they found evidence of a shooting, but not Lyons; by then he was already en route to Highland Hospital, police said.

No arrests have been announced and authorities haven’t said if they’ve discovered a motive for the shooting.
