Novato police arrested an East Bay man on suspicion of attempted murder for a shooting over the weekend on Highway 37.
Donald Nunez Jr., 34, of San Pablo is in custody at the Marin County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
The shooting happened Saturday afternoon, wounding a 50-year-old pedestrian, police said. Officers found him on the south side of Highway 37 between Highway 101 and Atherton Avenue.
Investigators linked Nunez to the shooting and executed a search warrant at his residence on Tuesday. Nunez was not there, but detectives seized several guns.
Nunez turned himself in Wednesday at the Novato Police Department.
“A motive for this crime is still under investigation,” police Lt. Alan Bates said. “However, this suspect and victim were acquaintances, and this appears to be an isolated incident.”
The victim was in serious but stable condition Thursday, Bates said.
The Marin County District Attorney’s Office has charged Nunez with attempted murder and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, a spokesperson said. The arraignment is scheduled for Friday.
