Pittsburgh Pirates Announce Roster Move With 9-Year MLB Player

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Pirates are playing the Atlanta Braves in their most recent spring training game.

After Monday, the Pirates will have their Opening Day matchup against the New York Mets on Thursday.

On Monday, the Pirates also announced news about veteran pitcher Mike Clevinger.

The Pirates wrote: “ROSTER MOVE: We have reassigned RHP Mike Clevinger to minor league camp. There are now 27 players remaining in Major League camp.”

Clevinger is coming off a season where he went 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA in eight games for the Chicago White Sox.

Clevinger was picked in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

He has also spent time with the Cleveland Guardians and San Diego Padres (in addition to the White Sox) over nine MLB seasons.

During the 2019 season, the 35-year-old went 13-4 with a 2.71 ERA in 21 games.

Over 164 total games, Clevinger has gone 60-44 with a 3.55 ERA.

He has also appeared in ten MLB playoff games.

Kevin Gorman of Tribune-Review Sports added: “The Pirates announced that RHP Mike Clevinger, a non-roster invitee, has been reassigned to minor league camp. That reduces the roster to 27 players (26 active), meaning that RHP Jose Urquidy and LHP Hunter Barco secured the final two spots in the bullpen.”

Pirates Last Season

The Pirates are coming off a tough season where they went 71-91, which had them at the bottom of the National League Central.

That said, they have players such as Paul Skenes and Bryan Reynolds.

The franchise last made the MLB playoffs during the 2015 season.
