The Philadelphia Phillies are currently wrapping up their series against the Washington Nationals.
After the Nationals series concludes, the Phillies will stay at home to host the Toronto Blue Jays in a weekend series.
There has been an uptick in roster transactions across MLB, and the Phillies are no exception. During their series with the Nationals, the Phillies quietly released a player who is an MLB veteran and played four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A recent roster move that went under the radar by the Phillies was the team deciding to release 4-year MLB veteran infielder Liover Peguero.
His transactions tracker reflects that Peguero was released from Lehigh Valley (the Phillies’ AAA affiliate) on August 4th:
“Lehigh Valley IronPigs released SS Liover Peguero.”
He had spent some time on the minor league IL this season and was activated in early July.
Across 73 games in the minors this season, Peguero hit .247 with 20 doubles, one home run, one triple, and 36 RBI over 251 at-bats. Considering he is still just 25-years-old, another MLB organization will likely pick him up soon.
Speaking of that, his release from the Phillies org. means he is officially a free agent and can sign with any of the 30 MLB organizations.

Taking a Look at Liover Peguero’s MLB Career

Scattered across 96 games in MLB, Liover Peguero has batted .227 in 291 at-bats.
He debuted with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022 (played in one game), and has not played with any other MLB teams other than the Buccos.
He has not appeared in an MLB game in 2026, and likely won’t at this juncture of the season.
On top of the .227 average, Peguero has 11 career home runs, six doubles, and a lifetime OPS+ of 75.
The underwhelming offensive stats in MLB are likely what keep him in the minors, but he can serve as a good organizational depth piece for another club that is in need of defensive versatility.
