Philadelphia 76ers Have Several Key Contributors Headed for Unrestricted Free Agency

The Philadelphia 76ers are going to look different next season, one way or another. How different they’re going to look remains to be seen, though.

The Sixers were officially eliminated in the four games in the Eastern Conference semifinals at the hands of the division-rival New York Knicks, and now they enter yet another offseason of uncertainty.

Will there be changes to the front office? Will there be changes to the coaching staff? We’ll have to wait and see on those, but there will assuredly be changes to the roster.

The Sixers have several key contributors headed for unrestricted free agency, four to be exact, and it remains to be seen if they’ll bring any of them back. Here are Philly’s four pending UFAs:

  • Kelly Oubre Jr.
  • Quentin Grimes
  • Andre Drummond
  • Kyle Lowry

All of those guys, outside of Lowry, played meaningful minutes for the Sixers last season. So it will be extremely interesting to see if the organization has any interest in keeping any of them in a Sixers uniform.

Lowry is likely to retire, but a valid argument could be made in favor of bringing any, or all, of the other three guys back – at a reasonable rate. The Sixers will be very limited in terms of salary cap space over the offseason due to the huge contracts of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George, so they’ll have to be very calculated in how they use their available space.

Kelly Oubre Would Like to Remain With 76ers

At least one of those pending unrestricted free agents would like to remain with Philadelphia.

During his end-of-season media availability, Oubre made it clear that he would like to stay with the Sixers, if given the opportunity to do so.

“I love it here, of course, but this is not my first rodeo. I’ve averaged 20 points in this league and still found myself barely getting any contracts. At the end of the day, man, I’ve learned so much,” Oubre said.

“The game of basketball has reinvented itself to me through different lenses and different eyes throughout my tenure here. I’m forever appreciative for the opportunity to play for this city. I don’t like how it ended, so I always say I like to finish what I start. This is a bit sour for me.
