Philadelphia 76ers Give Shocking Joel Embiid Update vs Rockets

The Philadelphia 76ers initially left Joel Embiid off the injury report for their Thursday night game against the Houston Rockets.

However, like last week, the team added him on the afternoon of the matchup.

The Sixers shockingly ruled out Joel Embiid ahead of the action. According to the official injury report, the star center is dealing with an illness.

Embiid’s absence on Thursday will be the third time in five games he’s out.

When the star center returned to the court from an oblique strain on March 25, he played three games in a row. During the March 30 game against the Miami Heat, Embiid admitted he was dealing with an illness after the 119-109 loss.

Embiid was off the injury report going into the April 1 game against the Wizards. However, he was ruled out hours before the game due to illness. Embiid would later rant about disagreeing with the decision to have him sit out.

“I was pissed off. I wanted to play basketball. I wasn’t allowed to play basketball. So, I think this is more of a question on Daryl Morey and whoever makes the decisions,” Embiid told reporters.

“I think going into Miami, I was pretty sick, but I understood how important the game was, and I still wanted to give us a chance to go out and try to do something because of how important the game was. I felt a little bit better going into Washington, definitely much better than I felt against Miami. I woke up, didn’t sleep until probably, like, five in the morning or six. So, with that, I couldn’t make it to shootaround. Then, after that, I found out online that I wasn’t playing that night. So that kind of caught me off guard, and yeah, that pissed me off, but then again, I guess they make the decisions.”

Embiid faced the Minnesota Timberwolves in the following game. When the Sixers hosted the Detroit Pistons to close out a back-to-back set, he was ruled out again.

In Embiid’s latest outing, he checked in for 39 minutes against the San Antonio Spurs. The star center shot 8-19 from the field and 16-19 from the free-throw line to score 34 points. The Sixers came up short against the Spurs with a 115-102 loss.

They are set to tip-off at 8 PM ET in Houston on Thursday.
