Person fatally struck by Metra train near Geneva station causing extensive delays

A person was fatally struck by a Metra train causing extensive delays in the west suburbs Thursday morning.

Inbound Union Pacific West train #18 hit the person near the Geneva station, 328 Crescent Pl., around 6 a.m., according to Metra officials.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Their age or gender wasn’t immediately known.

Inbound and outbound trains were halted until 7:30 a.m. and delays were between 15 minutes and an hour and a half, according to Metra.
