Pedestrian killed in Oakland hit-and-run involving two cars

OAKLAND — A pedestrian was killed Monday morning in East Oakland in a hit-and-run collision, authorities said.

Police were trying to identify the man. He is believed to be in his 30s.

The death happened about 5:42 a.m. Monday at the intersection of 98th Avenue and San Leandro Street.

Initial reports were that the man was crossing the street when he was struck by a car going westbound on San Leandro Street, fell to the pavement and was hit by another vehicle going eastbound on San Leandro Street, authorities said.

Both vehicles kept going, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detailed descriptions of the vehicles and drivers have not been released.
