Patriots Trade Speculation Rocked by Howie Roseman’s Quote

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman gave a sharp answer to the question of whether the Eagles will trade wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has been linked to the New England Patriots.

The Eagles did make some moves at the wide receiver position recently. They traded for former Green Bay Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks, adding to a crowded wide receiver room. Brown to the Patriots has been a topic all throughout the course of this offseason. Now, it is coming up once again in discussion with the draft approaching.

It does not seem like Roseman wants to field further questions about this particular topic, and said as much, as transcribed by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

“What do you think the odds are that I’m answering this question any different than I answered it anywhere else? Like really, do you think that’s 50 percent? Do you think it’s 75 percent? A.J. Brown’s an Eagle.”

Brown to the Patriots has been a hot oven button issue throughout the course of the entire offseason. Roseman has spoken on this issue several times as well. He even indicated that the Eagles would listen to offers for trading any player. One has to think that Brown would fall under that umbrella.

The trade for Wicks on Friday is certainly intriguing. They now have a crowded wide receiver room with several veterans in it. On top of this, they extended wicks for the 2027 season. One has to wonder if that extension means that they are preparing for life without Brown.

Patriots And Brown Have Been Linked Before

Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that Brown potentially to the Patriots has generated buzz. Coach Mike Vrabel has said in no uncertain terms that he still has a strong relationship with Brown, and that he has communicated with him frequently.

Brown also generated a been a buzz on his own when he appeared on the Dudes on Dudes Podcast with Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. When asked the question about whether he would be a member of the New England Patriots, he didn’t exactly deny anything in regards to this. It certainly created buzz and speculation about whether Brown would be a member of the Patriots next season.

June 1 A Date To Monitor For Patriots

If anything, something could get done following June 1. After June 1, Brown’s salary cap hit drops to $16.4 million, down from $43.5 million. $43.5 million would be his salary cap hit  if the Eagles traded him before June 1. There’s obviously a lot of money at play there, and it would present the Eagles with an opportunity to save.

It is certainly reasonable to wonder whether or not a deal will get done even prior to the draft. Patriots could use some of their draft capital in order to get a deal done. With that being said, it seems highly unlikely given the amount of money that is at stake between the two dates.

At the very least, it seems like Roseman is keeping things close to the vest right now. It will be interesting to see if his tune changes throughout the course of the next couple of weeks, or if he continues to keep things close to the vest. For now, it does not seem like Brown is going anywhere. Either way, this has been a fun and fascinating saga to follow.
