Patriots Get Major Drake Maye Injury Update Ahead of Super Bowl LX

The New England Patriots will be taking the field in just nine days to face off against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX. And with that, they hosted one of their final practices at Gillette Stadium on Friday as the team prepares to travel.

However, one key player was missing in action, which is sure to cause a lot of chatter heading into the weekend.

Patriots star quarterback Drake Maye was not spotted during the media-attended portion of practice, with just Joshua Dobbs and Tommy DeVito representing the group.

This comes after Maye was spotted at practice on Thursday, but didn’t throw the ball during the media-attended portion. Instead, he did raise his arms, signaling whether the field goal attempt was good or not, as Andy Borregales and the special teams unit took some early reps.

But, Maye isn’t the only Super Bowl quarterback dealing with an injury, as Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was listed as limited with an oblique injury during Thursday’s practice.

Maye suffered a shoulder injury in the Patriots’ 10-7 victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship, and was listed on the team’s estimated injury report on Wednesday as limited. On Thursday, the team held practice and once again the quarterback was limited.

But now on Friday, he wasn’t seen by reporters. However, before Patriots fans start to overreact, there could be a few reasons for this.

It’s possible, since New England has this extra week to recover, that the team is giving Maye a well-deserved rest day. But, there’s also the possibility that head coach Mike Vrabel was having a bit of fun by keeping Maye out while reporters were in attendance, with the quarterback potentially coming out once they left and participating in a limited capacity.

Everything will be confirmed when the injury report comes out later today, as well as when Vrabel speaks with reporters at the conclusion of practice.

What Did Drake Maye Have To Say About His Shoulder On Thursday?

When speaking on Thursday, the quarterback was asked how he is feeling.

“I feel good,” Maye said. “Got out there, moving around for a good bit today. We did a jog through, so I’m feeling good and looking forward to being ready to go. This is the game you dream of playing, so looking forward to getting out there and playing in the Super Bowl.

“I’m just trying to do whatever I can to get back to 100%,” Maye added. “I think a lot of people in that locker room would say the same thing. Having a two-week break is nice to rest a little more and get to know the Seahawks as good as I can.”

Head coach Mike Vrabel was also asked about his level of concern, but downplayed the situation.

“Not much,” Vrabel replied. “I try not to have a whole lot of concern. I just want to try to prepare the football team and make sure everybody is ready.
