Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has one big goal this offseason: to be ready to start in Week 1.
After suffering an ACL tear in December, Mahomes’ goal may be a little lofty, as it typically takes nine months to recover from such a severe injury. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave an update on their franchise star ahead of the 2026 NFL draft.
“He goes to meetings, he can lift, do all of that, rehab,” Reid told reporters this week. “That’s the phase he is in right now, so we’ll just see, kind of play it by ear, and see where he is at. He’s doing great, but we just have to be smart with this thing.”
While working to get back to full strength, Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, received incredible news on their investment in the Kansas City Current.

While the club got off to a rough start this season, sliding down a three-game losing streak after losing a total of three games last season, things are starting to turn around, winning the 2026 Teal Rising Cup Championship during the international break.
Mahomes and Brittany are co-owners of the Current along with owners Chris and Angie Long. The three-time Super Bowl MVP and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model celebrated the franchise being worth $275 million last year, but that number has since grown.
The KC Current Is Worth $325 Million, the Second-Most Valuable Team in the NWSL
Forbes reported that the KC Current remains the second most-valuable franchise in the league with a valuation of $325 million, up 18% from last year. Angel City FC remains at No. 1 with a $340 million valuation.
“Putting the deeper pockets to good use, many teams have begun building new practice facilities, and Current owners Angie and Chris Long privately financed the $140 million construction of CPKC Stadium, which opened in 2024 and has turbocharged the team’s business,” Forbes’ Brett Knight wrote.
CPKC Stadium is the first premier sports venue built primarily for a women’s sports team. The Longs continue to bolster the franchise in other areas.
Last July, the Current broke ground on a three-tiered expansion in Riverside, Missouri– Riverside Stadium, The Performance Center, and Pitch Expansion, totaling a $52 million investment. The owners celebrated the opening of the Performance Center and Riverside Stadium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February; however, Mahomes and his wife were not present.
Brittany, a former professional soccer player, however, will return to CPKC Stadium on May 6 to accept the inaugural Champion for a Change Award.

After the Current’s early exit from the playoffs, the team made several big moves. They hired a new head coach, Chris Armas, so former head coach, Vlatko Andonovski, could focus on being the club’s sporting director.
KC made a blockbuster move to send Claire Hutton to Bay FC for $1.1 million and replaced her by acquiring midfielder Croix Bethune from the Washington Spirit. The Spirit received a club-record $100,000 in allocation funds and $900,000 in transfer threshold funds.
Days before the 2026 home opener, the Current made a last-minute $350,000 move, trading for forward Penelope Hocking.
With Mahomes focusing on his rehab and family time, he and Brittany have not yet made it a match this season.
