For the first time in Patrick Mahomes’ NFL career, he’s watching the playoffs from home. Even if the Chiefs clinched a spot in the postseason, Mahomes would not be participating.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP tore his ACL and LCL in the final few minutes of Kansas City’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. The 30-year-old wasted no time before beginning his recovery process. Mahomes flew home to Texas the next day and underwent reconstructive surgery by Dallas Cowboys physician, Dr. Daniel Cooper.
With the goal of returning in time for Week 1 of the 2026 season, Mahomes is working hard on his rehab. While this isn’t how Mahomes saw the season ending, it’s given him more time to spend with his family. Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, share three kids.
Mahomes and Brittany welcomed their third child, a daughter named Golden Raye, on January 12, 2024. Golden joined big sister, Sterling Skye, 4, and big brother, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 3. One year after Golden’s birth, the family went all out to celebrate her first birthday.

Brittany and Mahomes posted a video from Golden’s birthday party and wrote, “Celebrated our Golden girl with the best crew.”
The montage showed Golden wearing a “One” crown, eating cotton candy, and smashing into a pink strawberry cake. At one point in the video, Golden appears to take her first steps — met with big applause from Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr. The quarterback’s mom, Randi Mahomes, was also in attendance.
The Chiefs star is seen enjoying the party while wearing a brace on his knee. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave an update on Mahomes’ progress last week.
“First of all, he’s doing great for just being three weeks out or so,” Reid told reporters. “He’ll go ahead and most likely stay up here (in Kansas City) for the majority of the time rehabbing. He and (athletic trainer) Julie (Frymyer). She’s the person that does all that, and he has a lot of trust in her, and he’s just been in there grinding.”

In an interview with WHOOP’s Will Ahmed, the founder & CEO of the fitness company, Brittany spoke about the possibility of having another baby.
“Nope,” she answered. “We’re done. We’re done for a while. Three. I don’t know, I mean I feel like you can never like say you’re done, but I think three is all I need.”
Mahomes appears to be on the same page. During a press conference shortly after Golden’s birth in January last year, “We’ll see down the line, maybe,” he said. “But my goal was always three. So, we’ve had three. And we’ll stick there for a while and see if we need to come back and get another one later on.”
Right now, they’re soaking life with three young ones. “It’s cool to welcome another baby girl in our family and see how my other kids react to her,” he added. “Having baby sissy and stuff like that—it’s been a lot of fun.”
