Paige Bueckers on Relationship With Azzi Fudd: ‘Nobody’s Business but Our Own’

Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers spoke on her relationship with Azzi Fudd, saying that it’s ‘nobody’s business but our own.’

With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, the Wings selected Bueckers out of UConn. This year, the Wings once again had the No. 1 overall pick, and they chose Fudd, Bueckers’ former teammate at UConn, and her girlfriend.

During the media day introducing Fudd, Wings PR shut down questions reporters had asking about her relationship with Bueckers. But now, the Wings star is breaking her silence.

In an opening statement to the media on Monday, Buckers said the following, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.

“Paige Bueckers addressed her relationship with Azzi Fudd in an opening statement during Wings media day: She said, in part: ‘Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi’s personal relationship is nobody’s business but our own. And what we choose to share is completely up to us. We’ve never let anything that happens off the court carry onto the court, and that’s what we’ll continue to do. Azzi Fudd was the No. 1 draft pick because she earned it, and it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with who she is as a human being, who she is the basketball player.’ Paige says she plans on addressing this only once,” wrote Philippou.

Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd Confirmed Their Relationship in 2025

Bueckers and Fudd publicly confirmed their relationship in July 2025, during WNBA All-Star Weekend, but they met back in 2017 at USA Basketball U16 camp.

The two played together at UConn from 2021 to 2025, leading the team to the national championship in 2025. Following that season, Bueckers declared for the 2025 WNBA draft and was taken first overall. She made good on that pick when she won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award in her first season for the Wings.

As for Fudd, she played an extra season at UConn, but declared for the 2026 WNBA draft after her fifth and final year there and was chosen first overall by the Wings.

Dallas Wings Looking to Get Back Into Playoffs

Despite enjoying a ROTY season from Bueckers, the Wings missed the postseason for the second straight year, as they finished with a poor 10-34 record last season, just one year after finishing 9-31. However, the team was lucky enough to win the WNBA lottery both seasons, securing the No. 1 overall pick two years in a row. They hit a home run when they took Bueckers first overall in 2025, and they are looking to hit a grand slam this time around when they took Fudd first overall.

With Bueckers and Fudd on the Wings, they have two of the most talented young players in the game in their starting lineup. Due to their personal relationship, they are always going to be linked together for the rest of their careers, regardless of what happens. They may be public figures and know the microscope that comes along with it, but they are hoping the media and the fans will give them some privacy as they look to help lead the Wings back to the playoffs.
