Packers WR Christian Watson’s Future Receives New Update

The Green Bay Packers will have some major decisions to make at the wide receiver position in the very near future. Christian Watson will be one of the biggest of those decision.

At this point in time, the Packers only have two wide receivers under contract past the 2026 NFL season. Those two wide receivers are Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

This offseason, Green Bay saw Romeo Doubs leave town in free agency to sign a lucrative deal with the New England Patriots. Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, and Jayden Reed will either need new contracts or could end up walking away.

Watson seems to be the best bet to receive a contract extension. He has shown signs of being a borderline top target for Jordan Love. Entering the 2026 season, he will have a lot riding on staying healthy and producing at a high level.

Keeping that in mind, a new update has been shared about Watson’s next contract.

Packers Receive New Update on Potential Christian Watson Extension

Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette has shared more information about what fans should expect in the future with Watson.

He made it clear that he doesn’t anticipate the Packers having to pay close to what the Seattle Seahawks gave Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Earlier this offseason, he received a massive four-year, $168.6 million.

In addition, he suggested that Watson’s value could come in well below the $30 million per season mark. That would be a great scenario for Green Bay.

Let’s take a closer look at what Watson brings to the Packers and why extending him would or wouldn’t be a good idea for the team.

Should Green Bay Prioritize Extending Watson?

Last season, Watson put up solid numbers for Green Bay. He played in 10 games, catching 35 passes for 611 yards and six touchdowns.

Unfortunately, the 2025 season was once again riddled with some injury issues. Over his first four carer seasons, he has caught 133 passes for 2,264 yards and 20 touchdowns in 48 games.

Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 208 pounds, Watson possesses elite speed and athleticism. He has the size to be a problem for any opposing cornerback.

To answer the question, the Packers should absolutely have interest in extending Watson. However, they need to be careful and can’t afford to overspend. Watson has not been reliable due to injuries, but his talent makes him valuable to keep.

Expect to hear more updates about Watson’s future as the season moves forward. For now, it would be a surprise if Green Bay doesn’t find a way to keep him in town.
