The Green Bay Packers may have a need at the running back position following the 2026 NFL Draft.
Earlier this offseason, the team made the decision to let Emanuel Wilson walk in free agency. They currently have Josh Jacobs as their starter, with Chris Brooks and MarShawn Lloyd as their backups behind the veteran.
Lloyd possesses big-time playmaking potential, but he has been unable to stay on the field. Brooks is a solid No. 3 back, but relying on him as a primary backup would not be ideal.
With that in mind, the Packers could be a team to watch in the running back market.
One potential option that has been suggested is New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara. He may not be what he once was, but he’s still capable of making plays.
Packers Linked as Potential Alvin Kamara Trade Suitor
ESPN’s Mike Clay came up with a list of potential running back who could be traded. Kamara was on that list. He also suggested Green Bay as a team to watch.
Landing with the Packers would have to be intriguing for Kamara. They would give him a chance to play for a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Whether or not he actually has interest in uprooting from New Orleans remains to be seen. He has hinted previously about retirement if the Saints were to trade him. Obviously, that would dictate whether or not Green Bay would have interest.
Should he be open to the idea of a trade, the Packers would make a ton of sense.
What Would Alvin Kamara Bring to the Green Bay Offense?
Just a few short years ago, Kamara was one of the most feared running backs in the NFL. That may not be the case anymore, but he can still play good football.
Last season with New Orleans, the 30-year-old running back played in 11 games. He carried the football 131 times for 471 yards and a touchdown, while also catching 33 passes for 186 yards.
Back in 2024, Kamara racked up 950 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 228 carries. He also chipped in with 68 catches for 543 yards and two scores.
Kamara may not be a dynamic 1,000-yard running back anymore. However, in a backup role behind Jacobs, he could be an elite option.
At the very least, the Packers should consider the idea of a trade for Kamara if he is made available. The asking price likely wouldn’t be too high at this stage of his career.
