The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears form one of the best rivalries in all of sports. Over the years, the two teams have had some epic battles.
Up until last season, the Packers have owned the rivalry in recent years. During the 2025 campaign, Green Bay and the Bears split the regular season series and then matched up in the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Packers came up short in the Wild Card.
Heading into the 2026 NFL season, the rivalry is at its highest point in a long time.
After losing to Chicago in such heartbreaking fashion in the playoffs, Green Bay has the Bears in its sights. The Packers want to come in and make a statement. That sentiment was echoed by starting safety Evan Williams ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Packers Safety Evan Williams Sends Clear Warning to Bears
During an interview with “Wilde & Tausch,” Williams made it clear that Green Bay is targeting Chicago entering the 2026 season.
“We’re not standing for it,” Williams said. “We’re coming for them this year and all the years to come.”
When the rivalry is strong between the Packers and Bears, the NFL is in a much better place. The two storied franchises are once again contenders at the same time. It will make for must-watch football at least twice during the 2026 campaign.
Both teams are loaded with talent on both sides of the football. The matchup between quarterbacks Jordan Love and Caleb Williams will also be healthy for years to come. Ben Johnson and Matt LaFleur are both among the league’s top head coaches.
That being said, it will be interesting to see how the two teams match up this year.
Green Bay Still Has Plenty of Work To Do
Brian Gutekunst and the Packers’ front office still have work to do in order to make sure the team can compete with Chicago. They lost a lot of key players from the 2025 roster.
Among the top needs for the team at this point in time are pass rushing, the defensive secondary, backup quarterback, and running back. Green Bay also has a need at wide receiver following the 2026 season, as only Matthew Golden and Savion Williams are currently under contract for next year.
The 2026 NFL Draft is right around the corner. Gutekunst will have a chance to make some improvements.
However, the Packers are in a dangerous situation. If they are unable to address their needs before the start of next season, they might come up short once again against the Bears.
Only time will tell, but Green Bay must make some moves throughout the remainder of the offseason in order to take back the NFC North division.
