The Green Bay Packers have found themselves spending the early portion of the offseason recovering from a tough blow they suffered when they lost defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to the Miami Dolphins‘ head coach gig. While the team signed head coach Matt LaFleur to a new contract, he’s had to move quickly to replace Hafley.
While LaFleur has been busy revamping his coaching staff, his brother, Mike LaFleur, recently received a big update regarding his future in the NFL. After spending three seasons working as the Los Angeles Rams‘ offensive coordinator, Mike was recently hired to be the Arizona Cardinals‘ new head coach, and that decision drew quite the reaction from Matt.
Matt LaFleur Shares Advice for Mike LaFleur After Getting Hired by Cardinals
Matt, who is eight years older than Mike, has been working as the Packers’ head coach since 2019. Previously, the two brothers worked together on the Atlanta Falcons in 2015 and 2016, with Matt serving as the team’s quarterbacks coach, while Matt was an offensive assistant. Now, they will both be working as head coaches in the NFL.
After spending two years with the New York Jets as their offensive coordinator, Mike has helped turn the Rams’ offense into a well-oiled machine over the past three years. Before he worked as Sean McVay’s offensive coordinator, Matt held the same position, as he was the first offensive coordinator McVay hired after he became L.A.’s head coach back in 2017.
Mike has now latched on with a Cardinals team that appears to be entering a transitional period, as serious questions loom regarding the future of the team’s franchise quarterback, Kyler Murray. In the blink of an eye, Mike’s plate has quickly become very full, but the good news is that he has a strong support system, with Matt coming in towards the top of that list.
“There’s a lot,” Matt said when asked if he had any advice for Mike. “I think the No. 1 thing, and I’ll never forget when I got hired as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Gary Kubiak called me, and he said, ‘Hey, there’s gonna be a lot that you need to do. Just prioritize it, and it will get done’ … It takes everybody. You cannot have enough good people around you. My interactions here today with everybody, I’ve been really, really impressed, and I’m excited for him.”

While Mike is one of the busiest people in the NFL right now, Matt hasn’t exactly had a quiet start to the offseason himself. The Packers moved quickly to hire the Cardinals’ old head coach, Jonathan Gannon, to come in and replace Hafley as their new defensive coordinator. With that move recently being officially announced, it has allowed for the rest of the defensive staff to be retooled.
Once the coaching staff is set, Green Bay is going to have to focus on making some upgrades to its roster. Of course, it would help if this group could stay healthier in 2026, but adding some more top-end talent, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, is going to be a key goal for the team. If all goes according to plan, though, the Packers could be primed to take a major step forward when they return to action.
