Packers Could Make Head-Turning Move for Polarizing QB

The Green Bay Packers have a few needs left to address this offseason. One of those needs comes at the quarterback position.

Over the last two years, the Packers have had arguably the best backup quarterback in the NFL with Malik Willis. In free agency, Willis landed a lucrative three-year, $67.5 million contract from the Miami Dolphins with a chance to start.

Willis has played in each of the last two years. Jordan Love has missed time due to injury and the elite backup didn’t let the offense skip a beat. Now, Green Bay will need to figure out how to replace him.

Quite a few names have popped up as potential options for the Packers. From Jimmy Garoppolo to Anthony Richardson to a rookie in the 2026 NFL Draft, Green Bay has plenty of avenues to take for a new backup quarterback.

Keeping that in mind, a new prediction has been made that would see the Packers take a flier on a highly polarizing quarterback to back up Love.

Green Bay Packers Predicted to Land Polarizing New Quarterback

In a new mock draft from DraftCountdown, Green Bay landed a new quarterback in the seventh round. That quarterback was none other than Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia.

During the 2025 college football season, Pavia ended up being a Heisman Trophy finalist. He didn’t win the award, as Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza took home those honors, but he did finish second in the voting.

Pavia put on a show throughout the year, completing 70.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,539 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. He also ran for 862 yards and scored 10 more touchdowns on the ground.

After playing his first two college seasons at New Mexico State, Pavia played the last two years at Vanderbilt. He finished his college career with 10,255 passing yards, 88 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions, while racking up 3,098 rushing yards and 31 scores.

Diego Pavia Could Be a Seventh-Round Steal for the Packers

At the end of the day, some fans love Pavia and some dislike him. Some analysts believe that he can be an NFL quarterback and others don’t think he has a chance

He’s a polarizing prospect, to say the least. But, the numbers don’t lie.

Pavia was one of the best players in college football last season for a reason. He may not have the typical tools for an NFL quarterback, but he made plays and found a way to win.

This is just a prediction and the Packers may not have an ounce of interest in Pavia. Or, they could view him as a seventh-round sleeper with extremely high upside worth taking a chance on.
