One dead in three-vehicle crash on E-470 in Broomfield

One person died in a fatal car crash on Monday morning on the on-ramp from Interstate 25 to E-470.

Colorado State Patrol received a call at 5:45 a.m. about the possibility of three vehicles involved in a road rage incident, with the wreck happening near southbound I-25 on the on-ramp to E-470, Sergeant Patrick Rice said in an emailed statement.

The crash at Washington Avenue mile marker 46 involved two vehicles, which resulted in debris that a third car hit, Rice said. Two individuals left the scene by ambulance in critical condition — one of whom later died. The Broomfield Police Department assisted state patrol on the scene.

The crash is under investigation, and state patrol cannot confirm if road rage was a factor. Rice declined to provide the ages and genders of the involved individuals.

The lanes of E-470 reopened around 9:30 a.m. after a three-hour closure following the crash. The toll road was shut down from Sheridan Parkway to Interstate 25 just after 6 a.m., according to E470 Road Updates.

This is a developing story.
