Some troubling concerns about the New York Jets were just brought to light.
WFAN radio host Shaun Morash dropped a bombshell about the level of meddling from owner Woody Johnson.
“Aaron Glenn has no control over the New York Jets, and this is a Woody Johnson stripping Aaron Glenn control situation. We all thought oh Aaron Glenn, he just wants to call the plays. He wants to take control of his own thing. That is not the case. Glenn did come to an agreement with Wink Martindale. Aaron Glenn was under the impression he had free rein to hire his coaches,” Morash described.
“Aaron Glenn let his coaching staff know, hey, you’re free to seek other opportunities as we had read about. All of a sudden a month [later] everything changed, and everybody got fired. We’re like, what the hell happened? Does Aaron Glenn not know what he is doing? Aaron Glenn told those guys, ‘Hey, listen, go seek other opportunities, I’m gonna try to limit the shake-ups here, we’re gonna hire a real defensive coordinator, we are gonna get this thing rolling.’”
“He flew down to Florida to meet with Woody Johnson to get him to sign on the dotted line on how much he needed to pay Wink Martindale. Woody Johnson looked Aaron Glenn dead in the eyes and said, ‘I’m paying you $12 million, you’re coaching the defense. We’re not hiring a defensive coordinator when that is your background. Aaron Glenn had to turn around and fly back up to tell Wink Martindale, ‘You know, sorry, Wink, it’s not happening, I gotta call the defense, and it’s Woody Johnson’s fault.’ So it was not an Aaron Glenn – Wink Martindale rift. Woody Johnson would not allow Aaron Glenn to hire Wink Martindale to call the plays,” Morash explained.
“Johnson told [Glenn] in that meeting, all those guys you told are staying, they are not staying, and Tanner Engstrand isn’t staying around to be a part of this offense. Aaron Glenn tried to blame the quarterback [and] Woody didn’t want to hear it.”
Wild Jets GM Bombshell
If that wasn’t enough, Morash shared a concerning bombshell about Jets general manager Darren Mougey.
“Mougey is warning people, ‘This is not the place you want to work, and Woody Johnson is not the boss you want to have,’”, Morash revealed on WFAN.
A Lot of This Doesn’t Seem to Make Much Sense
A couple of things here. Morash explained that AG attempted to blame the quarterback situation, and Woody apparently didn’t buy it.
However, if we go back to Mr. Johnson’s last public appearance, he totally threw Justin Fields under the bus, blaming him for everything. Then, in his next breath, he praised the job Glenn has done.
“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got. I mean, he has ability, but something just is not jiving. … You have to play consistently at that position, and that’s what we’re going to try to do for the remainder of the season,” Johnson said in October via ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
It doesn’t make sense that months later, Woody would totally flip the script.
Mougey was hired last year to be the GM of an NFL team for the first time in his life. A year later, he is openly telling people at the Senior Bowl that it sucks working for the Jets, and everyone should stay away?
That doesn’t make sense.
