NY Rangers Named Top Trade Landing Spot for 45-Goal Scorer

The 2025-26 season was undoubtedly disappointing for the New York Rangers. After entering the season with the hope of bouncing back, the Rangers instead once again struggled. The Blueshirts finished the campaign with a 34-39-9 record and at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with just 77 points. With this, they missed the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Rangers general manager Chris Drury moved on from multiple players during the season to kick off the Blueshirts’ retool. He traded Artemi Panarin, Carson Soucy, Sam Carrick, and Brennan Othmann. There is also a possibility that the Rangers will continue to shake up their roster this summer.

While the Rangers could move out some of their veterans, it is also very possible that they will add to their roster as well. Keep in mind, the Rangers are not in a rebuild and are looking for talent that could help them in the long-term.

Due to this, the Rangers have now been named a top potential landing spot for one of the NHL’s biggest stars, who is currently in the rumor mill.

New York Rangers Named Potential Trade Destination for Stars’ Jason Robertson

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Lyle Fitzsimmons looked at seven potential landing spots for Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson. Among the teams Fitzsimmons listed as a possible trade destination for Robertson was the Rangers.

“Robertson has been one of those guys during his stay in Dallas and it’s no stretch to suggest GM Chris Drury might like to transition from the “Breadman” to “Robo” to lead the Blueshirts into their next phase of contention,” Fitzsimmons wrote.

When looking at the Rangers’ roster, there is no question that they could use a star winger like Robertson. He would instantly give the Rangers’ first line and power play a massive boost if acquired by the Stars. His stats from the 2025-26 season certainly show this, as he finished the campaign with 45 goals, 51 assists, and 96 points in 82 games.

At just 26 years old, Robertson is also young enough that he could be a perfect fit on a Rangers club that is focused on both the present and the future. However, with Robertson entering the summer as a pending restricted free agent, the Rangers would need to lock him up to a new deal before he could cement himself as a part of their long-term core.

Ultimately, with the Rangers needing a star forward on their right side of 30, it would make a ton of sense for them to try to land Robertson this offseason. The price to get him would be high, but it also would be worth it when noting that he is one of the top wingers in the NHL.

Stars Facing Big Decision with Robertson

With Robertson being a pending RFA, the Stars have a big decision to make with him. Given how important of a player he is to their roster, there is no question that they would love to keep him around. However, if his contract demands end up being too high for Dallas, they may have no choice but to move him.

If Robertson ends up being made available by the Stars, the Rangers will certainly be a team to watch. Let’s see if they land him from here.
