No more mac-and-cheese pizza: Ian’s shutters Blake Street location for good

Ian’s Pizza, the small, Madison, Wisc.-based chain known for its wild toppings, said Tuesday that it has closed its Ballpark neighborhood restaurant, 2210 Blake St., for good.

The spot, which opened in 2014, served pizzas with unusual toppings, including macaroni and cheese, as well as ravioli and even nachos ingredients.

The news comes nearly a year after Ian’s was forced to close temporarily to deal with a major flooding problem. The temporary closure dragged on for months, though, until the restaurant finally conceded defeat with the following post on its website and Facebook.

“Ian’s fans in Denver,

“What can we say, we’re screwed!! Last year, our Denver location suffered extensive flooding. It’s now clear the damages were catastrophic – more than we can come back from. Sadly, we will not be reopening at our Blake Street location. We continue to explore opportunities to relaunch Ian’s Pizza in Denver. But we have yet to find the right spot! When we do, you’ll be the first to know.

“Thank you to our true heart and soul in Denver – our amazing employees! We are grateful to all our Ian’s staff for their hard work and dedication over the last 10+ years. In a big city full of pizza, Ian’s stood out because of the impactful customer experience and high-quality slices created by our staff day in, and day out.

“Thanks, Denver. We miss you already!! Hope to see you again someday in a new location, slinging your favorite slices.”
