NHL Rumors: 3 Edmonton Oilers Potential Free-Agent Targets

The Edmonton Oilers had a disappointing 2025-26 season. After struggling with consistency during the regular season, they were unable to get things together in the playoffs and ended up losing in the first round to the Anaheim Ducks because of it. Now, they are entering the offseason with plenty of questions surrounding them.

The Oilers absolutely need to strengthen their roster this offseason if they hope to keep their Stanley Cup window open. This is especially so when noting that they have two superstars in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who are right in their primes.

One way that the Oilers could look to strengthen their roster this offseason is through free agency. Due to this, let’s take a look at three free agents who the Oilers should consider targeting if they hit the market this summer.

Oilers Should Look to Sign Star Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky

If Sergei Bobrovsky ends up hitting the free-agent market on July 1, the Oilers would be wise to pursue him. It is no secret that the Oilers need to improve their goaltending, as it is the weakest part of their roster right now. Tristan Jarry has struggled immensely since being traded to Edmonton, while Connor Ingram is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) and is a better fit as a backup. Thus, it would make sense if Edmonton targeted Bobrovsky this offseason.

If the Oilers landed Bobrovsky, they would be bringing in a star goalie who defeated them twice in the Stanley Cup Final. He did have a tough season in 2025-26, as evidenced by his .877 save percentage. While this is the case, he is a prime bounce-back candidate when looking at his incredible resume and exactly the kind of goalie Edmonton should be looking to sign to a short-term deal.

Oilers Should Try to Land Much-Needed Top-Six Winger in Alex Tuch

If Alex Tuch does not end up re-signing with the Buffalo Sabres, the Oilers need to make a serious push for him in free agency. It is clear that the Oilers could use another impactful winger in their top six, and Tuch would provide them with just that if signed. This is because he is a power forward who is a consistent 30-goal threat.

If the Oilers signed Tuch, he could thrive playing on a line with a superstar playmaker with McDavid. He would also give them another very good forward to work with on their power play, which would be huge for an Oilers club looking to win the Stanley Cup next year.

Oilers Should Boost Bottom Six By Signing Scott Laughton

Scott Laughton would have the potential to be a very solid addition to the Oilers’ roster if signed. While he is not a star, he would be an excellent pickup for the Oilers’ bottom six, which is in need of a real boost. This is because he chips in offensively, is solid defensively, and plays a heavy game when playing at his best.

If the Oilers signed Laughton, he would have the potential to be a strong fit as either their third- or fourth-line center. He would also give them another very good option for their penalty kill.
