Even though Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills aren’t in the Super Bowl, Allen is still drawing some attention from players around the league who are taking shots at him.
Saints Star Cameron Jordan Takes a Shot at Allen
During Wednesday’s episode of ESPN’s “First Take”, host Shae Cornette asked New Orleans Saints pass rusher Cameron Jordan which quarterback has a better chance to reach the Super Bowl next season: Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, or Josh Allen.
Without hesitation, Jordan responded, “Burrow,” acknowledging that he’s already been to a Super Bowl. He also expressed his hope that Jackson would make it to one as well. However, Jordan ruled Allen out.
“If I thought anything, I thought this year was the year for Allen,” Jordan said. “I said all these guys are out. It’s his time, and he proved what I thought about him. He plays excellently during the regular season. Allen shows up. He is Superman, and at the same time, he can’t win those big games right now.”
Allen had a strong opportunity to make it to the Super Bowl this season, especially with Burrow, Jackson, and even Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs all out of the playoffs. But once again, Allen fell short in the AFC divisional round against the Denver Broncos.
The 29-year-old quarterback put on a mixed performance, throwing for 283 yards and three touchdowns, but he also struggled with ball security, turning it over four times. He fumbled twice and tossed two interceptions.
The Bills narrowly lost 33-30, making Allen’s turnovers particularly costly. Overall, he has performed well in playoff games, even when Buffalo came up short. It’s difficult to hold Allen solely responsible for the Bills’ playoff defeats.
While Allen has had a few playoff struggles, underestimating his potential to reach the Super Bowl would be a mistake. He is still one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, and if he can stay healthy over the next three to five seasons, his chances for success are promising.
Burrow and Jackson Have also Fallen Short
Jordan believes that Burrow and Jackson are currently ahead of Allen when it comes to reaching the Super Bowl, even though Burrow hasn’t made it to the playoffs in the last three seasons. Burrow missed most of two of those three seasons due to injury, but even in 2024, when he played all 17 games, the Bengals still failed to make the playoffs.
Jackson also missed the playoffs this season and, like Allen, has never reached a Super Bowl. However you feel about Allen, it’s worth noting that during his eight-year career, he has missed the playoffs only once, in his rookie season.
The Bills are gearing up for a new season with a fresh head coach, as they’ve elevated offensive coordinator Joe Brady to the position. While this change may bring about some adjustments, Buffalo is still expected to be one of the favorites for a Super Bowl run next year.
It will be interesting to see how Brady performs as a head coach and how the Bills fare in the AFC East next season.
