NFL Draft Expert Predicts Eagles Could Draft a Trey McBride-Type Weapon at No. 23

The Philadelphia Eagles could be signaling a quiet but significant shift in their offensive future, at least according to ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller. 

In his latest two-round 2026 NFL mock draft, Miller projects the Philadelphia Eagles to select Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq with the No. 23 overall pick. 

The move would directly tie into looming questions surrounding veteran Dallas Goedert’s future with the team. 

Miller framed the pick as classic Eagles philosophy of drafting ahead of need rather than reacting late.

Goedert recently turned 31 and is approaching the void years of his contract, creating uncertainty at one of the most important positions in Philly’s offense.  

Even if the Eagles restructure his deal for 2026, Miller noted that Sadiq would “be an ideal middle-of-the-field playmaker” for Jalen Hurts. 

He called the Oregon product a sudden, productive weapon and a proven red-zone threat. 

Why Kenyon Sadiq Fits the Eagles’ Offense

From a pure draft-profile standpoint, Kenyon Sadiq checks many of the boxes the Eagles historically value. 

ESPN and several national outlets rank him as the top tight end in the 2026 class after a standout 2025 season. 

At Oregon, he caught 51 passes for 560 yards and led all FBS tight ends with eight touchdowns in 14 games last year. 

At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Sadiq isn’t a traditional in-line bruiser, but his athletic profile is what separates him. 

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein compared him to Trey McBride, highlighting his ability to run a full route tree, uncover against man coverage, and generate chunk plays after the catch. 

His quickness allows him to “vandalize defensive seams,” while his body control and hand strength show up on contested catches near the goal line. 

Sadiq still has things to clean up, including six drops in 2025 and some inconsistency on routine catches. 

However, teams looking to expand their passing game often value upside and traits over a finished product.

For Philly, Kenyon Sadiq would offer long-term upside as a matchup nightmare in the slot or detached from the formation, while still giving enough effort as a blocker to fit within the Eagles’ physical identity. 

Eagles Predicted to Draft Defensive Tackle on Day 2 

Miller also predicted who the Eagles would draft in Round 2. 

He has Philadelphia selecting Iowa State defensive tackle Domonique Orange at No. 54 overall.

He called it “a familiar theme for an organization that never shies away from investing in the trenches.”

Orange profiles as a massive nose tackle or 1-technique who can absorb blocks and control the interior, a role that would help free up stars like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis to create more disruption. 

If Miller’s mock plays out, the Eagles would come away from the first two rounds with both a future offensive centerpiece and another foundational defensive piece up front.
