NFC WR Recruiting Aaron Rodgers Amidst Steelers Uncertainty

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to re-sign future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. With free agency and the NFL Draft over, teams are now focusing on offseason workouts and practices. But the longer that Rodgers remains unsigned, the odds of him going to a new team could continue to increase.

In fact, one of those teams that may very well be interested in him could be the Arizona Cardinals. At least, veteran Cardinals wide receiver Kendrick Bourne appears to be interested in bringing Rodgers to Phoenix. The former 49er has taken to social media to push for Rodgers to join him in the desert this season.

Aaron Rodgers Makes the Most Sense with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Here is what Bourne had to say on social media as he attempts to recruit Rodgers to Arizona:

“Aaron Rodgers Come on we waiting on you 👀😁”

If Rodgers were to leave the Steelers for the Cardinals, it would be somewhat stunning for several reasons.

Firstly, Rodgers has the chance to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy. The two made the playoffs in eight consecutive seasons, won five division titles, and brought home a Super Bowl title during their 13-year (2006-2018) run together along Lombardi Avenue.

Next, Rodgers already has a year under his belt with the Steelers. Despite battling age and a fractured wrist in 2025, Rodgers recorded 25 total touchdowns and just seven interceptions en route to posting a 10-6 record as the team’s starter. That was good enough to lead the Steelers to their first AFC North title in five years.

Along those same lines, Rodgers, on the 18th hole of his storied career, is likely not going to want to start fresh on a new team for the fourth time. Why would he go join a new team with a new head coach that hasn’t won a playoff game in over a decade?

The Steelers Are Built to Win Right Now

Omar Khan

GettySteleers GM Omar Khan has been with the organization since 2001.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a position to win right now. They have made major moves on both sides of the football. During free agency, GM Omar Khan traded for two-time 1,000-yard wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and signed back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher Rico Dowdle. On defense, he signed Super Bowl-winning cornerback Jamel Dean and veteran defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day, amongst others.

These are the kinds of additions that a rebuilding team wouldn’t make. Furthermore, McCarthy, much like former head coach Mike Tomlin, has always been a head coach who has kept his teams in Super Bowl contention almost annually. The Steelers are easily a better fit for Rodgers than the Cardinals are. Both teams are on opposite sides of the room at this point in time. Rodgers should finish his legendary career with one final chapter in the Steel City, playing for his former head coach.
