New York Yankees Still Owe Ryan McMahon A Lot Of Money

On Wednesday evening, the New York Yankees lost to the Athletics (in the Bronx) by a score of 3-2.

They will look to win the series when the two teams face off on Thursday afternoon.

Ryan McMahon finished Wednesday’s loss with two strikeouts and one walk in three at-bats.

Yankees Still Owe Ryan McMahon A Lot Of Money

McMahon has gotten off to a slow start to the season.

He is batting .077 with two RBI’s, two runs (and 13 strikeouts) in 11 games.

It’s worth noting that the 31-year-old is still owed a lot of money this season (and next).

Everything Yankees wrote: “The Yankees will be paying Ryan McMahon $32M over the next two seasons. Brian Cashman ate the entirety of the contact from the Rockies. A massive blunder.”

McMahon is in the middle of his second season with New York.

He was traded (via the Colorado Rockies) in 2025.

The Yankees wrote (via X) on July 25, 2025: “The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired infielder Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league pitchers Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring.”

McMahon’s MLB Career

McMahon was picked in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

He spent the first eight and a half seasons of his career in Colorado (and made the 2024 All-Star Game).

In six out of his first nine seasons, McMahon hit 20+ home runs.

Based on the money he’s owed, the Yankees will be hoping for him to return to form at some point soon.

After Thursday’s game against the Athletics, the Yankees will travel to Tampa Bay for a series with the Rays (on Friday).

They are currently the first-place team in the American League East with an 8-3 record in 11 games.

Last season, the Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.
