New York Yankees Could Be in Mix for Two Proven Relievers

The New York Yankees look like a potential World Series contender as the 2026 MLB season continues to draw closer. However, there is a chance the team could look even better by the team the season arrives.

Recently, the Yankees were able to accomplish their biggest goal heading into the MLB offseason. They were able to work out a new deal with star outfielder Cody Bellinger to keep him in town.

While the move for Bellinger was what has given New York a legitimate chance to compete for a championship in 2026, there are still some needs the team could consider addressing.

One of those needs has to do with the bullpen. The Yankees could use more depth in that department.

Two Relief Pitchers Connected as Possible Fits for the New York Yankees

CBS Sports analyst Mike Axisa believes that the team could consider a reunion with one of two former players who used to play for the team. Both David Robertson and Justin Wilson were mentioned as potential options.

“Righty David Robertson and Justin Wilson, two former multi-time Yankees, are the best relievers sitting in free agency,” Axisa wrote. “To get a real needle-mover, someone they can count on in the game’s biggest situations, the Yankees may have to venture out into the trade market.”

Both players would be worth taking a look at. They could make an impact for New York, although the trade market could bring a much bigger talent.

Robertson is coming off of a 2025 season with the Philadelphia Phillies that saw him appear in 2-0 games. He compiled a 2-0 record to go along with a 4.08 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, a 2.8 K/BB ratio, two saves, 10 holds, and a blown save in 17.2 innings of work.

Wilson, on the other hand, played last season with the Boston Red Sox. He appeared in 61 games, ending up with a 4-1 record, a 3.35 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, a 2.9 K/BB ratio, 19 holds, and four blown saves in 48.1 innings.

What Else Do the Yankees Need to Consider?

After re-signing Bellinger to a long-term deal, the Yankees could consider moving on from either Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones. Those two names have drawn some trade buzz of late.

New York has options to improve the roster. The front office doesn’t have to make more moves, but shoring up the bullpen would be wise.

It’s possible that the Yankees could head into the 2026 season with both Dominguez and Jones still within the organization. Or, they could consider pursuing an aggressive move on the trade market to give themselves an even better chance of wining a championship.

Only time will tell what New York chooses to do, but fans should stay tuned. There are going to be plenty of rumors throughout the remainder of the offseason connected with the Yankees and more moves could be on the horizon.

Keep an eye on the team looking into the bullpen market both in free agency and via potential trades.
