In response to Puma’s report, MLB insider Jon Heyman had this to say about Benge making the Mets’ Opening Day roster.

“Benge is the Mets right fielder. Spring scouting report: very good contact hitter, hangs in vs. lefties, power still developing, great arm, above average speed, relaxed personality,” Heyman posted on X.

Benge making the Mets’ Opening Day roster is undoubtedly big news. The 2024 first-round pick is one of the Mets’ most notable prospects and has the potential to become a high-impact player for them in the future because of it. It is exactly why MLB.com has Benge ranked as the Mets’ best outfield prospect and the Mets’ second-best prospect overall.

With all of this, it is certainly notable that Benge is getting a chance on the Mets’ roster to start the season. The 23-year-old outfielder will now be looking to make a big impact for the Mets, and he certainly has the potential to do just that.

In 116 games split between Single-A+, Double-A, and Triple-A, Benge had 15 home runs, 22 stolen bases, 25 doubles, 73 RBIs, and a .281 batting average. With numbers like these, there is no question that Benge showed off good potential this past season in the minors, and it will be intriguing to see how he translates it over to the major league level with the Mets from here.


Benge Has the Potential to Break Out in a Big Way This Season for the Mets

When looking at how well Benge has performed in the minors, he is now certainly a breakout candidate to watch this season on the Mets. He has the tools to become a very good player in the majors, and he is now getting his first chance to try to prove that.

Benge also just had a strong spring training, as he had a .366 batting average in 14 games with the Mets during it. With this, he has undoubtedly earned this golden chance with the Mets, and it will be fascinating to see how he takes advantage of it from here.
