New Stephen Curry Return Date Update Sparks Excitement for Warriors Fans

Golden State Warriors fans are still eagerly awaiting the return of superstar point guard Stephen Curry. 

Curry, 38, has been out since late January with a frustrating knee injury that has caused him multiple setbacks in his recovery.

Over his absence, the Warriors have degenerated into one of the worst teams in the Association, mounting just eight wins and holding onto the final play-in spot in the Western Conference. 

With the regular season marching to a close, Golden State is ideally hoping for Curry to return in time to get his legs back under him to prepare for the play-in tournament and hopefully much more beyond that. 

The clock is ticking on his hopeful return.

More Stephen Curry Return Details Revealed 

The Warriors won an ugly one last night. 

Against the struggling Brooklyn Nets, the Dubs survived after being down eight points at halftime and connecting on just 33% from the 3-point line for the game. 

Golden State ultimately won by three points, but even in wins the importance of Curry screams. The harsh truth is the Warriors just don’t have a player they can truly count on consistently outside of their two-time MVP. 

Fans know it would take next to a miracle seeing this team make it to the playoffs, much less win a series, but there are just so many things that make Curry a thrilling basketball player to watch. Even non-Warriors fans are rooting for his return.

Hopefully, the Warriors won’t be going much longer without their superstar. After it was originally hoped this week would mark his return from injury, team insider Monte Poole provided an update on the 38-year-old’s recovery timeline and when fans can expect him back on the court. 

“Well, first of all, he’s not playing until he passes through the scrimmage test,” Poole said on the “Dubs Talk” podcast this week. “Whether that’s, you know, Wednesday, or Thursday, or whatever, that’s when he’ll play. And no, I wouldn’t want to be the person who has the job of telling Steph he’s not playing for the rest of the season.” 

Amid the brutal injuries to the roster, a desperate feeling has erupted inside the Warriors faithful. It is tough watching your favorite team, one that won four titles in an eight-year span, suddenly look like it has no present and no future to bank on. 

Curry’s return will inevitably help some in getting the car back on the road, but for meaningful change to happen, Golden State will need big men Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis available every night and playing impactful basketball. Both are very capable, despite one’s age and the other’s injury history. 

The Warriors have just 35 wins on the season. At this point, getting to 40 before the end of the season would be a shining achievement. It can also be a building block for some play-in momentum. 

The Curry Shutdown Debate Still Lingers

After the world watched rising star guard Moses Moody go down and out of Monday’s game in Dallas with a ruptured patellar tendon, folks immediately wondered whether returning Curry to the lineup was a risk worth taking.

Understandably, seeing a terrifying injury makes fans feel more protective of their players. Curry has been out for a while and, when he does return, will need to adjust to the pace of speed of five-on-five play again. That takes a lot out of a 25-year-old’s body. Curry is pushing 40. 

But Poole disagrees shutting down the former unanimous MVP is something that makes sense. 

I know you’re not making a deep run,” Poole said of the Warriors, “but you know without Steph you know they’re not going to the playoffs. You know there’s no playoffs without Steph. The only chance for the playoffs means Steph is playing.” 

Added Poole: “If Steph wants to play and he’s cleared to play, he should play. Now whether means eight games, six games, whatever. We’ve said before, you want to see what it looks like with him on the floor with Porzingis. That’s a big part of it. You can visualize it, but you wanna see it.” 

There are just nine games left in the Warriors’ regular season. That’s not many, but a lot can change over the final three weeks. 

Curry’s comeback feels inevitable, but it may not happen for a few more days. 

Considering the Warriors hit the road after tomorrow night’s game against the Washington Wizards, it appears the earliest Curry can make a return is next Wednesday against the streaking San Antonio Spurs.
