NBA superstar Anthony Edwards went down with an apparent left knee injury in the second quarter of the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ Game 4 of their series against the Denver Nuggets.
Edwards had already been dealing with a right knee injury for the past month, but on Saturday night, it was his left knee that appeared to be hyperextended after jumping in the air.
Edwards’ injury comes shortly after Donte DiVincenzo went down with an apparent Achilles injury in Game 4.
NBA World Reacts To Anthony Edwards Injury
After Edwards suffered his knee injury, fans took to social media to express their reactions.
Anthony Slater of ESPN was one reporter on sight that was first to report the news of Edwards injury.
“Anthony Edwards appeared to take a knee-to-knee shot on that Cam Johnson drive to his left knee. Needed help to get to the locker room,” he wrote on X.
All signs point to Edwards suffering a left knee hyperextension. He had missed much of the final stretch of the regular season with a right knee injury, as he was listed as questionable for the first three games of the series as it knee issue continued to linger.
Reporter Dane Moore was also in Minnesota for Game 4, and reported a similar story as it relates to Edwards’ injury.
Anthony Edwards now injured and being helped to the locker room. He appeared to be grabbing his left knee. The right knee was the knee that had been injured,” he wrote on X.
Now, Edwards has been taken to the locker room with a left knee injury. His full status for the rest of Game 3 for the Timberwolves is not yet know.
In the first three games of the playoffs, Edwards was averaging 23 points, eight rebounds, and four assists on 39% shooting.
Edwards News Comes After Donte DiVincenzo Injury
His injury comes shortly after DiVincenzo suffered an apparent Achilles injury. It occurred after the guard stepped back and went down, a similar situation that happened to Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton in last year’s NBA Playoffs.
DiVincenzo is officially ruled out with a lower leg injury, and according to the Timberwolves, will not return in Game 4.
The full extent of his injury is also not yet known, but based on the videos, it appears to be a torn Achilles, as speculated by doctors on social media.
Just DiVincenzo’s injury by itself was a tough blow for the Timberwolves, but now without Edwards, their status in the playoffs after Game 4 remains extremely uncertain.
Minnesota wasn’t expected to beat the Nuggets, but held a surprising 2-1 series lead over the 2023 NBA champions.
Now, they are without two of their key players, both of whom could very well miss the rest of the series, and even the rest of the season.
Full injury updates on both Edwards and DiVincenzo likely won’t be known until after Game 4, but for the time being, neither are playing in the contest.
“Lineup alert: Mike Conley, Ayo Dosunmu start second half for injured Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo on Saturday,” Underdog NBA wrote on X.
