NBA Makes Cooper Flagg, Michael Jordan Announcement

The 2025-2026 NBA season didn’t go the way that the Dallas Mavericks imagined, but at least their No. 1 overall selection in Cooper Flagg lived up to the hype in year one.

On Monday, April 27, the NBA announced that Cooper Flagg is the winner of the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. He was in a tight race all season long against his former Duke teammate, Kon Knueppel.

While the Charlotte Hornets sharpshooter had a lot of support leading up to the voting process, Flagg’s early resume was too good for voters to overlook.

The Mavericks’ rookie produced averages of 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals.

Dallas finished the year outside of the NBA Play-In picture. Flagg led his team to a 26-56 record. Although he was initially expected to play through the year with Anthony Davis and eventually Kyrie Irving, the rookie forward ended up spending most of the season as the focal point of the squad.

Flagg has been rewarded for his efforts. Now, it’s up to the Mavericks to surround him with the right pieces.
