As the Minnesota Timberwolves prepare for a February 26 game against the Los Angeles Clippers, the star guard Anthony Edwards has been hit with a fine from the NBA.
Ahead of the game, the league made an official announcement.
Via NBA: âMinnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined $25,000 for throwing the game ball with force into the spectator stands, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. The incident occurred at halftime of the Timberwolvesâ 124-121 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda center on Feb. 24.â
Edwards was seen launching the ball at the end of the half against the Blazers. At the time, the Timberwolves had a slight lead, with a 62-59 score. Itâs unclear what went into Edwardsâ decision.
By the end of the game, Edwards checked out with 38 minutes of playing time. The star guard shot 11-27 from the field, knocking down 5 of his 13 shots from beyond the arc. He produced 34 points, along with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
The Timberwolves bounced back after coming up short against the shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers on February 22. Heading into that game, Minnesota was in the midst of a three-game winning streak.
While a $25,000 fine is hefty, Edwards is one of the higher-paid players at his position. The All-Star guard landed a major rookie extension, which kicked in during the 2024-2025 NBA season.
Last year, Edwards locked in $42.1 million in salary. This year, Edwards is making $45.5 million. That number will go as high as $55.6 million in 2028-2029. Overall, Edwards will earn $244.6 million on his current deal with the Timberwolves.

The 24-year-old produced 29.6 points per game, while knocking down 49% of his shots from the field and hitting on 40% of his threes. In addition to his scoring, Edwards has come down with 5.3 rebounds and produced 3.7 assists, along with 1.4 steals per game.
