NBA Announces Jayson Tatum News Amid Injury Update For Celtics Game

The NBA has announced that Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics has been named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.

The news comes as Tatum was recently ruled out for the Celtics’ Monday night game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Yet still, Tatum has now won Player of the Week just over ten months after tearing his Achilles tendon and subsequently coming back.

NBA Names Jayson Tatum As Player of the Week

Per the league, Tatum has been named Player of the Week in the East for week 23 of the 2025-26 NBA season.

He did it while averaging 25.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists while the Celtics went 3-0 in that span.

While Boston was without other star Jaylen Brown for one of those games, Tatum has played in just 11 games since returning from his torn Achilles.

In that game without Brown, against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday, Tatum had undoubtedly the best game of his season. He finished with 32 points on 12/23 field goal shooting while also 5/10 from deep, while also collecting five rebounds, eight assists, and a block in a 16-point victory.

He had 26 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in their win over Atlanta, as well as 19 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in the Celtics’ first win of the week against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Still, despite those two strong performances, his stat line against the Hornets has to be his highlight game since his return.

Jayson Tatum Injury Update, Celtics Injury Report vs Hawks

While Tatum is coming off a strong week, one in which he was just recognized by the NBA, he was recently ruled out for the Celtics’ upcoming game against the Hawks.

Officially listed on the injury report as out with ‘right achilles repair management,’ the 28-year-old is set to miss the game with what is typically described as ‘injury management.’ But while it is coming off a hot streak, Boston sitting Tatum is by no means a surprise.

He has already sat out a few games this season after his return, but the main goal for him, Brown, and the Celtics is that the star is healthy for the playoffs.

While on its own, his injury return is astounding, he was never expected to come back at 100%, meaning that resting him and giving him time to ramp back up for a playoff run was always in the cards for the final stretch of this regular season.

In 11 games this year, Tatum is averaging 20.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 39.9% shooting in his Achilles injury return.

Boston also has Nikola Vucevic (finger) listed as out. Neemias Queta is doubtful with a right thumb sprain, while Ron Harper Jr. is questionable with an ankle sprain. Derrick White is probable with a knee injury.

In good news, the Celtics will have Brown back for Monday against the Hawks as he is not listed on the injury report. He was previously dealing with an Achilles injury of his own, but considering he didn’t miss much time, there likely isn’t a ton to worry about for the team on his end.
