NASCAR: Austin Hill Calls Out Teammate After Early Kansas Lottery 300 Spin

Austin Hill saw his race end far earlier than expected in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series event at Kansas Speedway. The incident occurred in Stage 1, when Hill spun out after contact with teammate Jesse Love at Turn 4.

He completed only 37 laps before exiting the race. Hill later reviewed the replay and explained what led to the moment. The two drivers were fighting for stage points when the situation escalated.

Hill said he tried to avoid overly aggressive contact, but the cars came together at the corner exit. The spin and the damage that followed ended his night and cost him a chance to score points in the race.

NASCAR Contact Between Teammates Ends Austin Hill’s race early

Hill described the battle as a hard fight for position before contact. “I was able to finally see the replay. We were just battling hard there for stage one points. He got a run on me and slid me, so then I turned back under him and got beside him.”

He explained that he chose a cautious approach while racing his teammate. “I was trying to be a good teammate and not just go in there and slide him really dirty or anything, so I was content with running the bottom and seeing if I could beat him there.”

According to Hill, the situation changed as they exited Turn 4. “My spotter told me he was starting to get tight on my door. What he was doing in the center of the corner was fine. We were both racing hard. But off four, when he got all the way to my door, he knew what was going to happen. There was no air on the right sides. When there’s no air, you’re going to spin out every time.”

Hill made it clear he expected more space in that moment. “Jesse’s better than that. We’re teammates, so I would expect a little more room than what I was given.”

Austin Hill Details Damage and Lost Opportunity

The spin ended what Hill believed was his team’s competitive run. “It’s a bummer, especially with how our season’s been going. I thought we had a really fast Bennett Chevrolet. I was going to need to work on it there after stage one, but we never got the chance.”

The damage increased when another car made contact in the smoke. “I have no idea where the 18 was going, but it came through the smoke and hit us and ended our day.”

Hill’s race ended without points as a result of the incident. Meanwhile, Love continued and recovered to finish fourth after the contact.

Focus Shifts to Talladega after Kansas Speedway Incident

After the race, Hill addressed whether the incident would affect how the teammates work together going forward. He pointed to the difference between tracks.

“It’ll be business as usual. Talladega is a totally different breed than Kansas is, so we’ll be fine there.”

The Kansas incident showed how quickly races can change in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. A fight for stage points early in the race led to contact, a spin, and an early exit for Hill, while Love continued and finished inside the top five.
