A lot of fans were worried when the Detroit Tigers didn’t go out and bid for big-name position players like Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker.

But with an already dominant pitch staff after adding Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander returning home for one last run, McGonigle might be the spark the Tigers need to punch their ticket to the World Series.

“He’s a really good player,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said via The Athletic. “He’s a quick learner. I think his ability to process everything from subtleties within the positions to feedback when he makes a mistake is a great sign for a young player who is trying to find his way. He’s not overwhelmed by the moment. … He’s had an impressive camp production-wise, which is what everybody sees. But a lot of the little details, he’s excelling at.”
