During the Los Angeles Dodgers opening game in a three-game series against the Texas Rangers, Shohei Ohtani made MLB history by hitting a single in the fifth inning, and making MLB history with an on-base streak of 44 games, which passes Ichiro Suzuki as the most consecutive games reaching base by a Japanese-born player.
The craziest part of this streak is that Ichiro Suzuki got a statue unveiled in his honor in front of the Mariners‘ home venue tonight.

Who else but to break this 20-year-old record set by Ichiro? Suzuki paved the way for Japanese-born players, but Shohei Ohtani is redefining what it means to be a star.
He has won back-to-back MVP awards with the Dodgers since signing, and has aided Los Angeles in winning consecutive World Series championships.
In 2024, Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases.
Last year, Ohtani returned to the mound. Coming into this season, Ohtani held the longest streaks with 20+ consecutive scoreless innings as a pitcher, and also 40+ games reaching base.
